The main character's destiny is to save her people from the Saxons, but it drove me nuts how she is so selfish and does anything to get out of it. The plot became about ten times more engaging towards the end, and I have great hopes for future novels to be more fast-paced. As the author writes more, I like her books more. Fun afternoon read, teenage girls would like this series.

Was a fairly good book, tad bit boring at times. The characters were well developed liked Jacob & Marlena as a couple. Didn't really like the animal cruely at parts. Lots of sexual referances but those were the 30's. Loved the chapter's when Jacob reflected on his life at the senior home were he was living when he was in his 90's. All in all i give this 3/5 stars.

We use this cookbook so much that we've worn out our first copy and I've just ordered our second. It offers a whole variety of delicious recipes, albiet the beef section is a little large for us considering that we don't eat beef.

Impossible to rate this one because, when I read it in 1967 I fell in love with: Howard Roark [how could you not?]; Ayn Rand; architecture; the love scene in front of the heroine's fireplace; and individualism [which translates philosophically and politically into Libertarianism, I suppose]. Now I would find Roark insufferably arrogant and not involved enough in helping other people, and I bet the novel is poorly written. So 5 stars it would've gotten from me in 1967, and maybe 2 stars now, maybe 1. Still can't believe they cast Gary Cooper as Roark in the 1950's movie version of the novel.
