I love Jane Austen so, so much, and this book definitely is not disappointing.

Hubbard makes statistics and making sense of statistics and how to use them and think about and how to generate them even in small samplings all very accessible. The author knows his stuff and how to explain it to anyone; a brilliant book!

My reading of Sophie's World was enhanced by the fact that I was taking an intro. to political philosophy class. I learned key names of philosophers, but I'm not sure each treatment was sufficiently nuanced. In addition, the "plot" stopped gripping me half way through, although the characters' interactions make it worth giving Sophie's World a try.

A completely irreverent look at British history. It is smart and funny, though I know that many of the jokes were totally over-my-head and I consider myself something of an amateur Anglophile. The book is 75+ years old and thus doesn't include the authors' take on World War II, though considering that they managed to poke-fun at all of the other wars that Britain had been involved with, I'm sure they would have found a way. Truly the authors were brilliant men. However, this is NOT a book that everyone will get or understand WHY you find the objects of "The Pheasants Revolts" so hilarious. Consider yourself warned, if you read "1066 & All That" you WILL laugh yourself into stitches, so it is probably best not to read it out in public.

Title Thoughts: It really fits the book. Cover Thoughts: I don't think there could be a more perfect cover. She's wearing the white dress. There is the lake and the blood moon. She has her long red hair and if you look closely you can see the mark on her arm. WARNINGS: There is one sex scene. It is vague, but at the same time it isn't. Hm. It doesn't go overload with details. I really enjoyed this book and I am definitely looking forward to the sequel. The writing was simple enough and flowed pretty smoothly. The only thing I would change would be that the writing seemed too simple. For example there could be a sentence like this: I whispered in a tone that would let her know exactly how I was feeling. I think it would have flowed better if it was something like: I whispered vehemently. Luckily, as the book progressed and I became more immersed with Makayra, it wasn't there anymore. I loved learning about Makayra and the mark. I can't wait to read the sequel and learn even more about Lily's destiny. I enjoyed the relationship between Lily and Justin, although at times it seemed too fairytale like. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it. There was also a few pleasant surprises at the end, which I'm excited to see what will become of them. Addict's Last Words: The Blood Moon of Winter introduces an ordinary woman, who is a little anti-social, turned Goddess. We see Lily grow and fall in love. I was left wanting more of Makayra. To Buy or To Borrow: No doubt that you will enjoy it. I just suggest you wait until close to the release of the second book, though. Le Carre is a great espionage writer. If you've never read him, it's well worth it. Although the picture he paints of government and their dirty dealings does leave you rather depressed about the state of world politics & the hand we play in the politics of poor Africa...in this novel it was the congo

This book was filled with a lot of humor. The "Birthday" chapter (the first chapter) in particular was so funny that it made me laugh out loud. I'm a tough critic when it comes to humorous writing. I had to delete one star from my review because there were some chapters that felt a little padded out and probably could have been left out altogether (the "Yut" game chapter). I also think the author held back a little bit. She was writing about her family, after all, and feelings might have been hurt if she'd really let loose.

Okay. I think her works tend to be a bit over rated.
