I loved this story! It was a lot of fun. I was surprised to learn that Ian Fleming was the author. I definitely saw aspects of James Bond, though.

First recommended when I took high school summer writing classes at Sarah Lawrence College, I have put off reading Bird by Bird for almost a decade now. Every writer I know - rather, every female writer I know - owns a copy. This book isn't entirely relevent to me because I'm not writing fiction right now, so the advice on "plots" and "characters" are being loosely interpreted for my journalistic purposes. But it's marketed as being about "writing and life," so I'm reading it for advice on the latter. I have loved past Anne Lamott books: I want her to adopt me, in fact. But so far, it makes me feel like Lamott should stick to writing about faith for Salon.com - where she is a national treasure. (To be fair, this was written in '94 or thereabouts, so maybe she's stepped up her game.) Hoping it wows me in future chapters....

This was a quick read. Some good insight into Alzheimers, and also some panic that me or someone I love will have it. Very painful - many tears involved. One of the few books where i couldn't stop crying even when I finished it! But it did have a redeeming feeling at the end. I'm just a boob.
