Check out the prose. Dig the style. Raymond Carver looks verbose. Hemingway looks weak and fey. Dig the streamlined story. 1500 pages of plot compacted into 576. Dig the violence. The greed. The manipulations, the conspiracies. Check out the Outfit. The Beard. The Cadre. Jimmy and the Klan. The Hair and Little Brother all gunning towards history like a hophead mainlining a speedball. Check out the geek posing at writing this review.

I love anything by Jennifer Weiner. Because this book deals with sex and have some vulgarity, this might not be a great read for middle schoolers.

I listened to this book on CD in my car. I have never been to the South, but I plan on going in my future. It's a sweet book with a touch of humor.

This is a great hiking book. Cathy and Craig do a great job categorizing the hikes. We wore out our first copy and are hiking our way through the second copy.

Think Charlotte Bronte for the 21st century. Meyer's vampire chick lit is the most romantic, emotionally overwrought, gothic work I've read by a modern author! This book is *the book* with teen girls right now, following the success of Libba Bray's "Rebel Angels" (which was only slightly less gothic). I liked it, but I wasn't overly impressed. The vampire hero, Edward, is flat in this utter physical perfection and the protagonist, Bella, is absolutely spineless at points. The charm comes in the Edward's family and in Bella's friend, Jacob. Teen girls will (and do) love the complete immersion in teen romance and doomed Romeo & Juliet overtones of this cross-species[?] romance. Read it for escape, not complexity or growth.
One of the most important books on grand strategy post-Cold War, and especially post 9-11.

I teeter on 3 or 4 stars. I hesitated to read a memoir about a rape but the begining had sucked me in in a car crash sort of way. Her story of how she tried so hard to cope and was not very successful at first was so real and sad yet still inspiring knowing where her path eventually led--successful author. I teeter because I think it interested me more because she was a succesful author and it was her story than it would have if she was just any one else.

This was a painfully honest and sad memoir. Thy is one of the strongest people I've ever read about. I had never heard of the Khemer Rouge.... they were just as bad as the nazi's. Amazing true story with lots of history!

I saw this Jenny Nimmo book one day at a book store, knew I'd liked the Charlie Bone series, and picked it up. It took me quite a while to actually start reading it and I had a little bit of a hard time when I started. Once I got into it, I really enjoyed it. I like the Welsh setting and the characters. They're real and yet not....it's a nice combination. I definitely wanted to read the next one in the trilogy after this.
