Loved this book! If you are a runner this is a must read! The author did a great job of telling the story of the 1982 Boston marathon race as well as the life stories of the two runners - Salazar and Beardsley at the same time. I felt like I was at the race and could picture the course in my mind!

The Devon school, as many are aware, is based on Philips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. Back in boarding school, we used to walk past the real tree on the way from the bus to the lacrosse field when we played against them. It's every bit as ominous in person.
Good read on different types of community gardens around the country.

S.M. Houghton was a History master in Wales, but also a pastor, a librarian for his school, a booklover extraordinaire with a personal library of some 30,000 volumes, a lover of Spurgeon's sermons, and an editor for Banner of Truth Trust. He was born into a home steeped in Methodism, but as a young adult was saved and started learning the doctrines of grace. The book is subtitled "Reminiscences of S.M. Houghton," and it's not a real autobiography, as it really is reminiscences of important points in his life. Perhaps the most interesting chapters were chapter 8, "Treasure Hunts around Wales and Beyond," where he described his book hunting excursions, and then chapter 10, "The Work of an Editor," where he described his work as an editor for Banner of Truth Trust, editing such classics as Lloyd-Jones series on Romans and on Ephesians. The book closes with a chapter by Iain Murray, "The Memories of a Friend," and a chapter by his last pastor, Richard Chester, "The last days of S. M. Houghton," where Houghton, as he lay dying from cancer, on his death bed asked specifically for certain of Spurgeon's sermons to be read to him.

This book is adorable and while it differs from the movie slightly, it is still a delightful and quick read. I absolutely LOVE this movie and I saw it in my head while I read this book for the first time. I do think Sarah really was too spoiled but that is what makes the book so delightful I guess. I enjoyed it but my heart belongs to the movie.

I really loved the first two thirds of this book. There is a great build up of tension leading to an interesting revelation. However, the last third falls apart a bit and just isn't nearly up to the level of the beginning.

In life, everyone experiences change. It is a given that things will not remain the same forever. For Neil Sadler, the death of his wife leaves him with a relentless grief and a longing for home; the place from his childhood where he found such great happiness and comfort. He returns to his hometown, Mason, Ohio after years of living in New York City as an artist, to help renovate the family home, lovingly referred to as 'the Gothic Horror'. But coming home has some surprises: an old flame, and an unsolved family murder mystery. A slow, but good read, that addresses so many feelings associated with 'moving on'.

Caitlin just lost her brother, and as a kid with Asberger's syndrome, she can't figure out what to do about the void that she feels now that he's gone. She also doesn't know how to deal with life without Devon. In her journey to Closure, Caitlin learns a lot about herself and everyone else around her. This is a story that I would classify as middle school literature, but it was one of the best I've read from the category. Caitlin's story had something for everyone, because at one time or another we have all been confused by emotions. Her struggle to grow up with Asberger's and to learn to function in a world she doesn't understand has something in it that we can all relate to. This is definitely a book I would like to read again. I can see myself teaching this book easily. I think it would be a great book to teach alongside To Kill a Mockingbird not only because of the connections that are explicitly made in the book but also because it seemed to make the themes easier to understand. I think that kids would be able to relate to Caitlin even with her disability and understand that disabilities don't make people less than human.

I loved it! I can really relate to Carly. It,s weird that Steve is Carly's friend because he's so mean to her.i'm glad Carly got back at him.I wonder why the party store keeper gave her the mask even though he knew it was dangerous.I wonder if they got the mask off her brother?
