I am completely drawn into this book and I'm only about 60 pages in.

This is the first Tom Robbin's novel I came across and it is by far my favorite. (Quite possibly my favorite of all books, but I'm a book whore and no one keeps that title forever.) I absolutely fell in love with this book. If I were headed for the proverbial deserted island, this would be in my bag. Why are you still reading this review? Go read this book.

A suspense novel as well as full of conflict and mysteries. Love it!

I expected to love this book since I loved the first two (Shiver, Linger) so fiercely. But it so happens that I turned the last page and couldn't help but utter aloud: "Well, that was stupid." The writing was compelling, of course, as Maggie Stiefvater is a gifted author. But the plot of this book sagged with very little to prop it up and the ramp up to the conflict fizzled out before it was even fully formed. Happy endings are generally my preference...or a striking not-so-happy ending when appropriate. But this non-ending was frustrating and I felt sad that the characters I had come to love didn't get their proper send off. I'm left with this question: was the quality of the first two books enough the cancel out the disappointment of the third? And that, my friends, is yet to be decided.

I had a hard time getting through this book even though I liked it a lot. I'm not sure why. The story kept me captivated and the characters were likable.

I read this book because I'm fascinated and intrigued by all things Marie Antoinette! There are three books in this trilogy: this one, "Days of Splendor, Days of Sorrow" and "Confessions of Marie Antoinette." All three of the books have the same pluses and minuses. Incredibly well-researched, there are quite a few times in the books when I learned things that I've never read or heard of before - surprising after as many books as I've read...and even multiple visits to Chateau Versailles! The author's knowledge of the subject has the distinct advantage of 'putting you right there' and her descriptions of people and surroundings are detailed and sharp, allowing the reader to truly 'see' what is being described. The books are written in the first person, by Marie Antoinette...except for occasional instances when - out of nowhere - they point of view is switched to another person. I found the times this happened to be confusing and poorly inserted into the narratives. I realize, of course, that in telling the story there needed to be information given to the reader which Marie Antoinette was not privy to. However, I felt it was extremely clumsily handled and spoiled what might have been surprisingly good historical fiction (not a genre of which I'm particularly overly fond). I recommend the entire trilogy to anybody who is interested in learning the "true" story of what happened to the famous, ill-fated Queen of France. The research and details of her life make up for what is lacking in cohesive writing style. They are quick easy reads, and I found myself finished with the trilogy much sooner than I expected to be.

This might not be a story that I will think about for days and maybe I didn't have goosbumps reading it but it was very sweet and left me with a warm fuzzy feeling...hence the 5*

I devoured this series during my hardcore Arthurian phase in junior high. They influenced my writing and my illustration, and I remember them fondly. I'm afraid to revisit them, on the chance that they haven't held up...

Another reminder of how good novels can be. I liked it for it-s protrayalof Afghanistan that we don't really get to see here in the mainstream media. A nice, alternative view of a country that we in the US think is just sand and mountains.
