Very good. A little too much on the whole topic of honour but still good. Like Romeo and Juliet only with less rampant stupidity, fewer characters and better plot lines and dialogue (or monologue rather). "This sword, which I can never wield again, I pass to you for vengeance unto death. Against this arrogance set up your courage; Only in blood can such a stain be cleansed. Kill or be killed!"

Read by the author. Simple lessons to help make anyone a confident, effective public speaker. Includes excerpts from JFK's inaugural address and Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech.

So, this book is considered not only Fitzgerald's greatest work but one of the greatest books of the twentieth century. I still haven't figured out what makes a book one of the greatest or what makes it a classic. I did appreciate the statement that Fitzgerald made about relationships being a front for self-gain. The preface notes that the book didn't sell that well while Fitzgerald was alive. I bet if the book were a new release today, it would suffer the same lack of popularity.

Simple, stark, beautiful. The struggle for Cuba's freedom is another story that hasn't been told but needs to be.

"Books--all those big, heavy-bottomed ashcans where men empty their lives. I like the leopard. I don't like Benj. Franklin." This book starts off with some interestingly hallucinatory and surrealistic prose, but cannot maintain the necessary mixture of abstraction, alienation, and violence. Soon it devolves into bad gender relations and attacks on language and tradition, as per above or: "Man has been corrupted by his symbols. Language has killed his animal." &etc. There are interesting aspects and themes present, but none of them are ones that aren't done better elsewhere. Try Derrida, Proust, Camus.

A FANTASTIC end to the Percy Jackson series! I was told that it was action-packed from start to finish and I can say that it is entirely true! Not only do all your favourite characters come back, but Percy and Annabeth go through several changes that lead them to their points in life and to look deep inside themselves to find what they need to save Olympus. From Nico, Hades to Luke and Hermes, and the final battle against Kronos and Typhon, "the Last Olympian" lives up to its hype. A great read! 5/5!
