This is the first Pickard book I've read and it won't be the last. I didn't want to put this down. Although I had my suspicions as to what really happened, and some of them turned out to be right, this story kept me engaged until the end.

I have read this book numerous times and it is definitely one of, if not my favorite book of all time (i must admit that i have emotional attachment to it due to a traumatic experience which has nothing to do with the story or plot itself). I have recommended this book to many friends & all have enjoyed it. Also very excited that it is coming out on the big screen soon!!

Not as strong a read as The Hunger Games. It starts off slowly, and, in my opinion, wastes some great characters and opportunities to set up the sequel. But just like its predecessor, excellent details and simple yet complicated plotting make it worth the journey.

I loved this book; it has a lot of humor, but it's also serious. It ended just how I wanted it to. Awww. Here's the moral of the story: "Priscilla's story has taken such a hold on me, it seemed when first I heard it to be so full of lessons, that I feel bound to set it down from beginning to end for the use and warning of all persons, princesses and others, who think that by searching, by going far afield, they will find happiness, and do not see that it is lying all the while at their feet. They do not see it because it is so close. It is so close that there is a danger of its being trodden on or kicked away. And it is shy, and waits to be picked up." 4 1/2 stars

DURING READING: So far it's not holding me in. It's been a fairly uninteresting biology lesson. AFTER READING: OH MY that was horrible. Just horrible. I hate myself for having finished it. It's about a boring parasite living under the streets of NY who finally makes his appearance and is slightly defeated. OH MY GOD It's lame. The entire book is spent discussing PARASITES... not just like.. hey they are what they are.. no, a long, detailed DISTURBING look at specific, real-life parasites (like a biology lesson) will be waiting for you at EVERY OTHER CHAPTER.. having nothing to do with the story at all. Not that there is a story. It's bad. Really bad. THE WHOLE THING IS A SHAM! I feel like Sally on Halloween.. I'VE BEEN CHEATED! I really liked the Uglies/Pretties/Specials series by Scott Westerfeld. I thought it was great. A really good read for me, anyway. Because I enjoyed the series I set out to try some of the author's other works. Unfortunately, the title "Peeps" sounded interesting because it had the subject of "vampires" in it. It's a lie. There are no vampires as we know or want them to be. I cannot express how much I disliked this book. Please, if you're thinking about reading it: Don't. Unless you like non-fictional tales of the lives of parasites - yes that's right, worms, rats, diseases, pestulance, plague, more worms, blood borne disgustingness, and monkey-worms. As for romance - in the end you get a kiss. Of course that kiss comes on the heals of a tale about 2 foot long WORMS STUCK IN PEOPLES LEGS. And yes, that's true. Giving this a 1-star rating is really an insult to the 1-star books. Seriously. Maybe boys would like this book... greasy, grimey, gopher-gut loving boys. Yes, that is DEFINITLEY the target audience here.

Rightio. This book falls into the "life is hopeless" camp of Indian literature. I prefer this sub-genre to Sherman's "I'm really pissed off" grouping of the same. The narrative is difficult to follow at times, largely because the author seems to expect a certain level of intelligence from her readership. I appreciate that, but I don't think I'd throw this one at anything less than high school seniors. Sophomores would certainly drown, unless they were spectacular students/readers. It's very, very sad, but very good. I recommend it.

After having read Tao Lin's blog (my friend "discovered" it and shared it with me a while ago, which I am grateful for) I expected his books to be cheerful and funny. They are funny, and somewhat cheerful as well, but also very different from what I expected. I don't know if this is a bad or good thing yet. I think it's good. I wanted to underline many sentences but sadly it isn't my copy of the book. I laughed out loud a few times and often read things that I wanted to share with people but then realized I was sitting alone. And that made me sad. And annoyed. But I still really enjoyed the book. It wasn't hard to put down and I didn't walk around missing it when I wasn't reading it (something I often do when in the middle of a book I love), but that doesn't mean it was boring when I actually was reading it. If I am making any sense.. I did enjoy it. Quite a lot. But I haven't decided if I think it is great yet. I'm not sure what feelings I'm left with after reading it. It's all a bit confusing.
