I don't think I could ever get tired of reading Summer Blonde. It features four stories that don't intersect, but they do share a lot in common (unrequited love, apathy). The stories would be heart-breaking except that each character's pain and ultimate folly is self-inflicted. -- Also, is it me, or are Tomine-drawn females sort of boner-inducing?

An excellent book about the first female plebes admitted to the US Naval Academy. Their trials, their tribulations, and their overcoming of obstacles, both physically and mentally in a male-dominated institution.

Running with Scissors reminded me of this book. All about dysfunctional people or at least the author makes the readers aware of dysfunctionality within "normal" people.

In his memoir, A Margin of Hope, Irving Howe wrote self-critically about the distance between Boston and New York, between America’s seventeenth-century origins and its modernist twentieth century. With his fellow New York intellectuals in mind, Howe confessed to a failure “to consider the possibility that the tradition of New England Puritanism could yield significant weights of experience.” Read more...

This book is soo wonderful. I wish it were reprinted. It is so ahead of it's time. He tackles the evils of the modern food system - and it was published in 1967! He rails against industrial bread, canned pasta, and salad as a first course. He is wonderfully opinionated and idiosyncratic. He should be on every bookshelf.

Read this book for the first time when I was a young teen. It’s 2 (a bit intertwined) novellas about mentally ill children. Jordi is about a young psychotic boy and Lisa & David are 2 mentally ill teens (she schizophrenic, he obsessive-compulsive) in a residential treatment center, who manage to be of great help in each other’s healing. Beautiful stories that inspired me to want to help children. Written by a psychiatrist in an era when psychotherapy was the treatment of choice, I imagine this story is dated, but still lovely and worth reading.

This is another one of my favorite books. I think Elizabeth Bennet is one of the best characters ever written. And the tension between her and Mr.Darcy pulls you through the book. I love the interaction of the family in the book, how the mother flits around like a nervous bird in the middle of everybodies business and how the father is so steady and reliable. Most of all, I love how they speak, its so proper :)
