Really fascinating book about a place I never even knew existed and by the time I read it I had been to SF twice. The third time I went of course I knew it was out there-this amazing place that I couldn't visit. Loved this book tho.

This book had two intertwined storylines from different time periods. Normally, I like that kind of a format, but it didn't add as much to the story as I thought it should. I really liked the grandmother's story, but the "present day" story was a little lacking. It seemed to drag a bit and I would have liked to read the whole story from the past. Still, it was interesting and worth reading.

Another one of my early books that I read and got me involved in the Free Leonard Peltier Movement.

I really enjoyed this book for what I think it was supposed to be -- fairly witty true-to-life chick lit. Perfect for reading outside in the sun when you're too lazy to read anything taxing.

How I Heard About It: It was a Booker Finalist a couple of years ago and was explained as "Harry Potter for grownups" How I Procured It: Amazon.com...it was a discarded library book so it came in a funny little plastic wrapper thing. Type: Fiction/Historical Fiction/Sci-Fi Ratings: Story: 4.5 Writing: 4 Who Would I Recommend It To? Anyone who enjoys stories set in the 19th Century, anyone who likes magic and magicians (who are more like wizards) Favorite Character: I liked Jonathan Strange better than Norrell - he's younger, more personable, and doesn't use underhanded measures to get what he wants. Does it Remind me of Anything Else? It reminds me of Harry Potter in the study of magic and the pupil/teacher relationship. However, it does not have a separation of magical and non magical people, and it's written in much more heavy language. Would I read it again? No, once is enough. I might listen to it on audiobook, though. Comments: A very thick read. Even after I picked it up again and was working on it every night, it took about a month to finish. It was very spooky at times, though not as scary as others I've read. It's almost written like a textbook, because there are footnotes about certain things. I usually skipped those if they didn't seem interesting. I liked the way the book ended, it left some things unanswered but was generally tied the story up nicely. I have more thoughts but don't want to ruin anything, you'll just have to read it for yourself.

Was rather disappointed in this book. Probably won't read anymore in the series. Janet Evanovich gotlazy when writing this book. She mostly just changed the names of people and places and used the same basic template used in the Stephanie Plum series. I loved the Plum series, have read every one of them and look forward to each new one. With Wicked, I kept having a feeling of deja vue, like I've already been there and done it, except it didn't have nearly the quality of plot, humor and character depth. If you're a Stephanie Plum fan, save your money. Get it from the library or borrow it from a friend if you must read it.

Another great Camel Club Story. I did think it went on a bit too long, and the ending wasn't entirely satisfying. (these are 2 important criteria that I expect from a mystery or a thriller) The villian in this story was just too conveniently smart and had fingers everywhere, then, suddenly at the end is outsmarted. Hmmm. But overall I enjoyed the read.

a mix of harry potter and lord of the rings. a great and fun book but doesn't compare to the main influences.
