I really like Llosa's style, however the plot became tiresome after awhile. How many times can a man be treated disgracefully by a woman and continue to rescue her? Perhaps I am simply jaded (or not a man) however after the third time or so it seems ridiculous to me. I am looking forward to reading more of his work, however. Someone recommended La Fiesta del Chivo (The Feast of the Goat) which I will try to find next.

Мне понравилось, даже с учетом излишне морализаторского тона автора и его явно неопределенного отношения к собственной героине. Керри вызывает симпатию, ее поступки никогда не исходили из каких-то плохих побуждений, не было в ней злого умысла, да и не соблазняла она никого, а просто плыла по течению, лишь изредка пытаясь трепыхаться. Но как-то уж слишком легко она отпускала людей из своей жизни, как говорится «с глаз долой – из сердца вон», никого особо не любила, вот эта ее поверхностность в отношениях и отталкивает. Да и не пойму, как можно столько времени печалиться, что не на что потратить деньги и даже не вспомнить о родных, прозябающих в каком-то мелком городке?! В общем, мое отношение к героине тоже далеко не однозначное. Хотя она еще молода, так что, мне кажется, автор не совсем прав, так категорично лишая ее даже надежды на счастье, имхо, у нее еще все впереди. Дважды обжегшись, впредь она будет осторожнее вступать в отношения с мужчинами и, может быть, когда-нибудь еще встретит того, кого действительно полюбит. В конце концов, не зря же ее тянет к людям умным и неординарным, вроде Эмса. 8/10

It's so, so stupid, what we do to ourselves because we're afraid. It's so stupid. Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen is a precious book, so close to my heart. I already had my expectations up when I started this book; Sarah Dessen being one of my favorite authors. But this book, after I was done with it, left my heart full with hope and belief. And most of all, I learnt this: there will be times in your life when you don't know what you really truly want or when you think that what you really truly want is just impossible, as impossible as keeping the moon on an eclipse. But always remember, that if you put your faith in that moon and its return; you'll succeed. 'If something doesn't work exactly right, or maybe needs some special treatment, you don't just throw it away. Everything can't be fully operational all the time. Sometimes we need to have patience to give something the little nudge it needs. It's about understanding. We're all worth something." PS: If you're not too convinced by the review; forget it. Read the book and I bet you'd like it as much. Happy Reading! :)

Suzanne Collins sure does have a skill for writing characters it's hard not to hate. Katniss is so selfish. Throughout the series she has done nothing to deserve Peeta and the other people who have risked everything to keep her alive. She barely says thank you and is just an angsty teenager all the time. Nevertheless, I couldn't put the book down, and am pleased that Peeta came back to himself. He is the redeeming character of this book. He is just so good. He is so kind to Katniss even when she doesn't deserve it. Overall I suppose that I liked the series, but really I think the first book The Hunger Games was the best.

I love Scaredy Squirrel! I've used this book with first graders to teach them about lists, schedules, and other media. They're funny and clever, and Scaredy is likeable even though he is a bit of a curmudgeon. This book is great for teaching about invitations and party plans

i read this for the first time in high school and instantly loved it, wrote my senior paper on it, and have reread it twice since. i love this book, it may be long and preachy at times but its characterization coupled with the underlying symbolism gets me everytime. you can't help but love to hate roark for being an unbearable asshole but you deeply respect all that he does.
