This book is really great for someone getting into digital photography. It's not bad for anyone at any stage, but seems to be aimed at beginners.

two quotes: "A cigarette is the perfect type of perfect pleasure. It is exquisite and it leaves one unsatisfied." "Nothing makes one so vain as being told that one is a sinner." delicious.

The satire of this book is so sharp and dead-on that just reading this book will make you feel intelligent. Unless you're not that bright. Then it may be hard to enjoy.

This is the exciting penultimate book in Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians series! I was so excited when I heard there was going to be a fourth one. Now, I finally have it on my shelf, yet another thouroughly, well read, immensly enjoyed book. The author begins the story with the kind of sentance you just know something dangerous and funny is sure to follow. "The last thing I wanted to do on my summer break was blow up another school." After an breif encountor with an old friend, our brave demigod hero barely escape two Empousai (demon, blood-thirsy cheerleaders). After watching the school go up in flames, he reunites with his friend Annabeth, a daughter of Athena, and runs back to Camp Half-Blood...because big trouble is brewing. The huge, earth-shattering, the-GODS-are-angry kind of trouble. Fomer camp consuler Luke and his demonic army are helping the Titain Lord, Kronos, raise again after brooding in Tartarus for centeries. Their first step is to destory Camp Half-Blood! Percy and his friends must desend into the creepy, dangerous, ever-changing Labyrinth so they can find Daedalus, the man who created the deadly place, and hopefully get his help to stop Luke from invading Camp Half-Blood. Will they suceed in braving the dangers inside the Labyrinth without going insane?

I got this to read during the Netherlands portion of my Europe trip this summer, but got to it and through it while I was in Wales. This is the story of Griet, who the author explains is the girl with the pearl earring of the famous painting by Vermeer (a Dutch painter). The story is really very predictable and plays flat. The author tries to create intense feelings, but really never achieves a strong climactic moment or amount of tension. The concept is fun and it is enjoyable to ponder who the muses of the great painters really were, but an easily skippable read.

Scary scary people. I thought the book was good and absorbing, mostly because how awful people are to each other in the book. I really want to re-read Rebecca now, because I see lots of parallels in the books.

This book started a love affair with JD Salinger. I, and many others, felt like Holden spoke directly to me. It is very clever, but it goes much deeper than that. I've read it countless times since them, and did one of my senior projects at Smith on how to teach this book. So much symbolism! So much tone in the writing!

God Doesn't Grade on a Curve - Dead People Can't Help Themselves - The 10 Commandments Weren't Given to be Kept - What You See In the Mirror is not the Real You - Trying to Live for Jesus Will Only Frustrate You - Prayer Doesn't Change God's Mind - God Keeps Satan on a Leash

it is strange how you think it's about something but it turns out to be about something else. Even though it is sad you don't feel sad but you end up feeling relieved. the beauty is in putting two extremes together like that
