I LOVED this book. It was almost better than the first one, and it's definitely tied. It was exciting, different, touching and meaningful. I loved the way the characters developed, and the re-introduction of characters from the previous book. It was AMAZING!

There were some great sentences, but overall it seemed like you need to be Russian-American, a Democrat and Jewish to fully appreciate the book. The male characters blurred together. The ending was a bit sweet and redeeming.

Maybe it was the time of my life in which I read this book, but it gave me nightmares. Yet, I would recommend it because the depiction of how reality settles in so harshly for the "Utopia" at the beach is intriguing. Lots of disturbing parts, but worthwhile!

I wish I could put a copy of this book into the hands of every US voter -- more accurately, I wish I could have done so before the midterm elections, so that voters would have been able to give themselves a better assessment of the views of the candidates on offer; the results would assuredly have been very different. In a text not much longer, if at all, than the Tom Paine tract its title homages, it spells out very readably exactly the nature of the climate-change problem facing us, the corruptness of the arguments of those who try to persuade us it doesn't exist, what we can do to solve it, and how, rather than approaching the solution as if it were some kind of a burden we can instead regard it as the glorious economic opportunity it in fact is. The authors have gone out of their way to avoid making this a partisan broadside, even going to the extent of citing the famous George W. Bush address to Congress in which, years late, he finally acknowledged the existence of global warming and emptily promised to do something about it. If you're unlucky enough to have someone in your family dumb enough to have swallowed the line that gross excesses of CO2 in the atmosphere just mean there's more plant food to go around, here's the ideal stocking stuffer for them.

A different type of story to say the least. I wasn't a fan, though there were certain scenes in the story that stand out to me. Good writing, just not my style.

One word. FANTASTIC! Perfect Chemistry was the first book I read by Simone Elkeles, and she just blew me away. I read this in one sitting... which meant staying up more than half the night. I can’t remember the last time I’ve done that! The next day, I went back and re-read parts of it… wanting to just devour it again. This was like West Side Story and The Outsiders meets Pretty in Pink. The writing is amazing, and I was completely immersed in the story. The characters are believable and have so much depth. I never would have thought I could get emotionally attached to a “perfect” cheerleader and a gangbanger! Hmmm… all I can do is gush… so how about a list of things I LOVED about this book: • I LOVED how the chapters alternate perspectives between Brittany and Alex, so that you could get entirely into their heads. • I LOVED that the story is about two kids from opposite sides of the tracks, with differences in wealth, race, and social circles. • I LOVED that Brittany could recognize her own façade. • I LOVED that Alex was a smarty pants. • I LOVED that Brittany was so dedicated to her sister • I really liked the friendship that developed between Brittany and Isabel, and how realistic it was… • I LOVED how Elkeles tied in so many life lessons into a beautiful love story (don’t judge a person by how they appear on the outside, or where they are from). • Most of all, I LOVED the chemistry between Brittany and Alex! Seriously, I can’t say enough good things about this book! I did find the ending to be a little too… tied up in a neat little bow… but I loved the characters so much that I just ate it up. I highly recommend this book! Be advised that this is aimed toward older teens as it deals with drugs, sex, and gang violence.
