This is an anonymously penned book, diary style, about the day to day life of a call girl. Lyrical, intelligent and sardonic. Loved it.
Always a quick, satisfying read, and always disturbing when considered next to the deteriorating political climate we now live in. I love Orwell's work, and "1984" has always been at the top of the list. I'd never champion him as being a great writer. He's not. But he is a hell of a storyteller, and his imagination is generally unrivaled in his genre. His ability to look into the past in order to create terrifying futures has always really impressed me. Sadly his fiction is edging closer and closer to a collision with reality. You all know this book. Read it again. It doesn't stop being brilliant.

I like this book, it will be a good read to students to teach them similes like slippery as, mad as,fresh as, ect. The story is funny and illustrations are humorous. Also, it will help to increase student's vocabulary.

Christopher Moore's "Practical Demonkeeping" is an interesting novel. Moore is an extraordinarily funny writer, and the book almost reads like an extended stand-up routine for parts of it. Unfortunately, though, Moore tries to weave in far too many disjointed themes and characters, and the book suffers as a result. He switches repeatedly between stories, paying dutiful homage to notions of backstory and character development without every fully embracing them. And that is a shame because there is so much to like in the book. It's a light, quick read.

It has always creeped me out how marginalized Native Americans have been throughout white history, and by that I mean, ever since the first Europeans planted their damn flags and claimed ownership of land that wasn't even theirs. As an Indian of the dot variety, I always found the fact that the Europeans managed to turn fellow tribes against one another while the Europeans scooped the land out from under them eerily reminiscent to the way the British used rivalries of local kings in India to slowly take over their land. But for all the suffering my ancestors had to face, they eventually reclaimed ownership over their (albeit now fractured) land, and I have a culture borne of that land. The Native Americans never got that chance to reclaim their land. Thus, in many ways, Sherman Alexie's The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight In Heaven is a story of a culture borne in the absence of a land. Alexie's book is actually a collection of short stories depicting the lives of those of the Spokane tribe. There are stories told in third person and ones told in first person. There are stories of older Indians, those of children, teens, middle aged, and young adults. There are stories of the past, the present, and predictions of a dim future. There are stories of reservation life and that of those who managed to escape it. A majority of characters pop in and out of stories, both as narrators and as participants in the events being described, which lends the book an awesome sense of cohesion and a multilayered sense of what's going on. The only criticism I have would be that certain stories didn't have a distinct enough voice for me to know who was narrating. This problem however ceased to exist in the second half of the book. Overall, I loved it and would highly recommend it to others, though as a warning, it will leave you with a depressed feeling for the rest of the day.
