סיימתי את הספר "הירושה" מאת שאנדור מאראי. הציר עליו נסוב הספר הוא האהבה השקרנית. בניגוד לספר הראשון של מראי שתורגם לעברית, "הנרות בערו עד כלות", לא מדובר כאן בספרות מופת, אלא בנובלה דקה שמידי פעם צצות בה אמירות ותובנות מסקרנות. ניסיתי למקד מה כל כך הפריע לי בספר, והגעתי למסקנה שאי האמינות של העלילה והבחירות של הדמויות. בסופו של דבר, הדמויות מצטיירות נורא זקנות, בזמן שבפועל הן באמצע שנות ה- 50, הן כל כך תקועות בעבר שלהן, ולא מתקדמות לשום מקום שלטעמי זה סוג של רמיה ספרותית, שנועדה לשרת את העלילה. בגדול התאכזבתי לא רק מהנרטיב הספרותי אלא גם מאופן בניית העלילה, שהותירה אותי תמהה על כוונות המשורר. מומלץ, רק אם חייבים. I have had this book for almost six months, but never picked it up because I just didn't think it could keep up with the twilight series. I was right in a way, because I still love the twilight series better, but this book for me was just different. So, I didn't feel the need to compare them. It was a great little novel and a must-read for twilight fans!

I am going to start out by saying that I enjoyed this book. However, when comparing it to the rest of the books I read in this series... I don't know... it just didn't pull me in the way the previous books did. I am not sure if it was the storylines or perhaps the fact that this book, out of all of them, seemed to drag a little bit. I know I am being a bit vague, but I don't want to give any spoilers away. Also, there is a BIG, HUGE CLIFFHANGER at the end of the book. Frankly, I am not a big fan of cliffhangers and I think that also turned me off a bit. I know why authors and publishers do this.... so you'll buy the next book of course, but if I had read these as they came out... I would be ROYALLY annoyed! Luckily, my impatient self does not have to wait ;o). In this book Rose graduates from the Academy, is still wondering about Dimitri (who is basically stalking her), trying to find a way to make him not a Strigoi anymore, and now she has to deal with struggling to find out what her place will be beyond graduation. We also have more of the other side stories like Lissa and Christian, Rose and Adrian, Abe and Rose and once again we meet some new characters. Poor Rose is always put in such precarious positions. The whole book is full of those. Rose is always so anxious to 'put things right' that she goes to the extremes to do that. Another thing that I won't say turned me off, but frustrated me something awful, was the whole Rose and Dimitri storyline...espcially later on in the story. I just hope Dimitri finally does realize all that Rose did for him. Oh, and there was a more political undertone to this book than the previous ones. I didn't mind that, but I noticed in other reviews, that it annoyed some people. I believe that Mead needed to put all the politics in this book because I THINK that will be the premise for the next book (or at least be a BIG part of it). Overall, I did like this book. I would give it a 3 3/4 star to a 4 star rating. I am now off to start reading the last part of this series. Keeping my fingers crossed that many questions will be answered.

This is a finely crafted piece of VERY dark fantasy. I couldn't put it down - which is saying something, because frankly I am a jaded readder when it comes to high fantasy and these days it tends to bore me. Usually high fantasy is too predictable. This one twists about in all sorts of unexpected ways. Apparently it's part one of a trilogy and I cannot begin to imagine where Lawrence is going, but have every intention of being along for the ride. It's not a child friendly book, it runs along the edges of horror, and it isn't about some big fight between some ultimate (yawn) evil and some obvious hero type. Nor is it your standard faux-mediaeval. I don't want to say what it is, because that would spoil it a bit. If you want to be surprised, aren't afraid to be shocked and want to read a book that isn't just like something else, read this. It rocks. I think it's one of the best fantasy books I have ever read.

This was an impulse buy from the bargain rack. I was familiar with the Tim McGraw song and was interested to see how it might be translated into a short novel. The writing was good but I thought that the characterization and parts of the plot were trite because they were forced to conform to the story told in the song lyrics. I think that it should have been much longer just to give the story less of a rushed feeling, and to let the characters fully evolve.
