This book was so moving. Unfortunately, it's not the most uplifting story, but Afghanistan doesn't have the most uplifting history. I learned a lot about Afghan culture, about the Taliban, and about friendship.

I like you too, Amy Sedaris!!! I read this book in about three days because I could not keep my grubby little paws off of it. The humor's a kind of toned down version of Strangers With Candy's: dry, strange, and delightfully lewd. I love it. The book has a lot of great tips and recipes as well presented in a fun, readable way. Any book that can teach me to make spanokopita AND a "fucket bucket" deserves lots of stars. Also, if she's ever doing a book reading/signing/talking/whatever near you, make sure to get there crazy early. I drove one and a half hours to see her, only to find out the place had been packed past capacity for a few hours.

This book is soo wonderful. I wish it were reprinted. It is so ahead of it's time. He tackles the evils of the modern food system - and it was published in 1967! He rails against industrial bread, canned pasta, and salad as a first course. He is wonderfully opinionated and idiosyncratic. He should be on every bookshelf.

Although the Rusty Brown story is still amazing and worth the read, the last few pages of the "Building Stories" story are so intricate as to be stunning and what really makes the book for me. I could look over this book for hours and still find new little details.
