I read this to answer questions, for some insight and let's face it, I'm a bit nosy. I also needed something to cap my year long READ of her books in the order they were written. Georgette Heyer was an extremely private person and after reading this, I still don't know her, but I am less in the dark. She never did an interview, in fact her married name was not released until after her death. She was Mrs. Richard Rougier, smoked two packs a day, had one much-beloved son and had a wicked sense of humor. She never thought very much of her books and was her own worst critic. Her real love was her histories. I feel for her, in that she never appreciated what she did so well. She worked on My Lord John for years, never to finish it. She always had to stop to write another Regency, either to pay the dreaded taxes or cover some other financial difficulty. She lived a full life, enjoyed the finer things and truly loved her husband of 50+ years. She would have been grand to sit down to meal with (although she had little love for Americans and hated to talk about her books). I would recommend this to ALL of her fans. And Karen...according to this bio, she was in a deep depression when she wrote Penhallow.

I wasn't a huge fan of book five. I think it was possibly important for Rowling to take a small break from all the action and do a little character development, which she tried to do. That said, she could have done a better job. Part of her mistake in slowing things down was that she didn't really do much to give us a whole lot of further insight in the characters. Instead, they were all whimpery, or really mean, or just plain irritating. I also didn't like how certain parts, especially the end, read like they were specifically tailored for an upcoming movie. That said, there is one really funny chapter, and the story isn't awful, and it's an easy read, so maybe pick it up if you're bored.

Wow! Interesting, scary, not everyone see the world like we/I do.

Most of it I already new. It wasn't as thrilling or epic as I had hoped although now I know more about Atlantic Cod and oxygen producing plankton. I also feel terrible eating fish now.

Best piece of literature ever written. Absolute perfection.

Only one training plan per level of experience, and in my opinion, very optimistic training plans. This book did not tell me anything I didn't already know.

Lively illustrations accompany nontraditional anecdotes about the past Presidents. Some tales are humorous, some are heroic, but all tell more about the men behind the position and the qualities that made so many of them great. Audience (may include primary and secondary audiences, if applicable) K- 3rd Age-appropriate booktalk Did you know George Washington was our first President? Did you know that he had eight brothers and sisters? Andrew Johnson was our 17th President and he couldn’t read until he was 14! You know the Obama girls have a new dog, but did you know that Theodore Roosevelt, who was our 26th President, and his family had dogs, cats, guinea pigs, snakes, mice, rats, badgers, raccoons, parrots and even a pony at the White House?!?! Do you know where I learned all of that? I read it in So You Want to Be President? by Judith St. George. You should check it out and learn more funny and surprising facts about the past Presidents of the United States. Strengths/weaknesses (as applicable) The anecdotes and illustrations bring to life these former Presidents who might seem old and staid to some young children, based on their readings in a traditional biography. Knowing that some presidents didn’t eat broccoli, or fought or went skinny dipping makes them much more interesting. This book is a bit dated, only covering the presidents through Bill Clinton. A new version published in 2004 includes George W. Bush, but so far there has not been an update to include Barack Obama. How could I use this book? (situations, groups, events, holidays, etc) Great for learning about American history, the Presidents, President’s Day. Read-alikes What Does the President Look Like By Jane Hampton Cook, Adam Ziskie (Illustrator) ~ Various media from across the centuries show how Presidents have been portrayed. What Presidents Are Made Of by Hanoch Piven ~ Anecdotes and portraits of select Presidents. Portraits are created using a chalked background and facial form with found objects (e.g. bullets, marshmallows, chain links) creating the distinct features. If These Walls Could Talk: Family Life at the White House By Jane O’Connor, Gary Hovland (Illustrator) ~ Humorous and surprising anecdotes about the activities of First Families in the White House. Madam President By Lane Smith ~ A young girl imagines the activities, both real and far fetched, that fill her day when she is president. (fiction) Independent Dames: What You Never Knew About the Women and Girls of the American Revolution by Laurie Halse Anderson, Matt Faulkner (Illustrator) ~ The women and girls who worked behind the scenes to fight for our freedom are highlighted through anecdotes and cartoon style illustrations. A timeline noting major events of the Revolutionary War helps readers connect the new story to what they have learned already. Awards 2000 Caldecott Medal

This novel was the first great epic of the internet age, leapfrogging over cyberpunk and into a posthuman future where UNIX is thousands of years old and newsgroups span the galaxy. A powerful computer virus that transforms matter is attacking civilization, and our only hope may lie with two kids marooned on a medieval planet full of dog-like creatures with collective consciousness. This is quite simply one of the most inventive, astonishing, and humane space operas you'll ever read. I copied that review, cause I couldnt put it any better.

As a long-time rescue volunteer and advocate, it was impossible for me NOT to love this mystery, as long as the author got it "right." and O'Connell nailed it.
