Its a bit blasphemous but I'm not a Roald Dahl fan. Even after forcing myself to read this AND loving it I'm not going to be reading any of his other stories. I'm not sure why but I got serious Milly Molly Mandy vibes from this and that was probably the first book I ever loved

This whole series, about 14? books, is GREAT. They read fast and no one book is better or worse than any other in the series. They flow well together with many plot twists and turns. Perfect for any girl who wishes she had special powers.

This was a slow book for me to really "feel" the characters. However, I LOVED it! Great read, highly recommend this book

I enjoyed the novel, but I am concerned about the current charges that Sockett may have taken conversations/expressions without permission. The novel creates tensions between black domestic workers and white employers that a couple historians have described. The characters and descriptions of Mississippi weather and the Junior League make the narrative engaging and provide some comedy within a very complex and often dark story.

I knew nothing about Japanese baths or Japanese bathing habits. Talmedge (sp) took me on a historical and current tour of Japanese baths. Now, I wish I could partake! It was entertaining and interesting.

This was a brilliant story about forgiveness and redemption. It was funny in parts and sad in others. Would recommend this book to anyone.

Wow am I glad I picked this up. Almost didn't out of fear that the premise reminded me a bit too much of Across the Universe. But. Totally different. This was all kinds of upsetting, terrifying, tear-inducing, lovely, romantic, with awful, impossible circumstances. But also uplifting. Loved it.

This is a good, straight-forward book about International Adoption.

Fahrenheit 451 is the story of a man named Guy Montag who is a fireman that instead of stopping fires, he starts them. Guy never thought of life as anything else but being a fireman, which entailed burning peoples houses who read books. He loved the smell of Kerosene and seeing the embers after a nights work. He thought his life was fulfilling, until one night Montag leaves the fire station and meets a girl roaming about by herself. He knows she is his new neighbor but knew nothing about her. He starts up a conversation with her but she seems unlike most girls, she’s curious. She walks about Montag, looking at his fireman uniform, than she introduces herself as Clarisse McClellan. They start to walk together when Clarisse tells Montag that she isn’t afraid of him, which Montag founds to be a peculiar statement. “Why would you be afraid of me?” he asks, when she says, “So many people are. Afraid of firemen, I mean. But you’re just a man, after all…” As the week goes on, Montag and Clarisse become very close friends. She always greets him when he leaves for work and when he comes back. They talk of things that he never had talked about before, from the autumn leaves smelling of cinnamon to acting as if they’ve known each other for a lifetime. Montag’s mind begins to broaden because of Clarisse, but one day she’s not outside waiting for him when he leaves for work. She is nowhere to be seen for a couple days. Because of her he begins to question his whole life, his marriage, his career. When he hears what happened to her, Montag becomes a completely new person, not the same fireman that burnt houses, but a man of curiosity to read and know the world for what it really was, not burning it. The author of Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury was born August 22, 1920 in Waukegan, Illinois. He career for writing started after his high school in 1938. He spent his evenings and days at the typewriter or the library. He is known for being an American novelist, short story writer, essayist, playwright, screenwriter and poet. He’s known for being a fantasy, science fiction, and a mystery writer. Other books that he has written are Something Wicked This Way Comes, Dandelion Wine and The October Country. He received a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame on April 1, 2002, and in 2004 he received The National Medal of the Arts. Fahrenheit 451 was a really interesting book. For me it’s just amazing to see how back in 1950, Bradbury predicted this futuristic America when in fact that it’s not that far off from being true. His writing is very descriptive and gets you really into the story. I highly advise people to read this if they like science fiction novels or like the writings of Kurt Vonnegut, another classic American science fiction author.
