Originally posted at: http://whippedcream2.blogspot.com/201... David needs to attend AA: "Alphas Anonymous". After leaving an abusive relationship, David tries to steer clear of all alpha males. However, being caught drooling over the volley ball players on the beach during lunch, David finds himself facing down Edge (aka Goliath), a giant of a man, and one of the team members. Thinking a beating is to come he is grateful when Gareth, Edge's team mate, steps in to stop the fight. As the plot thickened I found myself laughing and enjoying the character, David, and his smart mouth. I could not help but love the byplay between Gareth and Edge especially when Gareth came out and said he was gay before a match. Throwing that revelation in the mix only added tension between the two friends. However, Gareth wanted David and was ready to face the dislike of his team mates to have him. I definitely loved the plot with all the excitement and banter that went on between the characters. The courtship was not a bed of roses and had a number of road blocks to keep me wondering if it would be a happy ever after. Ms. Lain did a beautiful job in creating a funny but emotional tale to entertain the reader with only a few editing errors to be found. As a whole, the book was short but an attention getter and worth reading again in the future. This tale was truly a sensual and decadent experience that I will not forget any time soon. The whole story was a light and entertaining read that left me with a smile on my face thinking about an “Aussie sandwich”. I do enjoy Ms. Lain’s writing style and her unique sense of humor which makes her books stand out in a sea of other publications. She is one author I would recommend to anyone that is looking for someone new to read.

A fairly decent account of the tactical and operational mistakes that led to the loss of these two capital ships. The British were taught a valuable lesson on the use of airpower and the limited value of battleships deployed without aircover. The narrative was clear, but the background was thin and there was little indepth operational and strategic analysis on this episode.

one of the first "twist" novels written in 1940, its sometimes marketed as a trashy pulp fiction type of book, but it's actually very good, and the suspense isn't a plot trick, it's a significant part of the story. It's based on Jane Eyre and the idea of "the mad woman in the attic"

"Sea Surface Full of Clouds" is one of my favorite poems ever. "Rosy chocolate and gilt umbrellas"! "Chop-house chocolate and sham umbrellas"! "Porcelain chocolate and pied umbrellas"!!!!!!!

** spoiler alert ** At first I thought this book was kind of weird. I had trouble connecting with the characters. After a divorce the husband became a right wing, fundamental, evangelical nut job and the wife became a lesbian. I never was able to sympathize with the husband and the characters on his "side" were right in line with what I know about the judgmental churchey people. But by the end, I could NOT put this book down. I even dreamed about it at night.

Not as good as the first, but entertaining nonetheless.

So far, this is an intense and drama filled book. It definitely catches your attention from page one. The best part is that it is based on the true story of Mary Draper Ingles who lived in the first settlement in Blacksburg, VA.

A Great book that is sort of like a documentary.. It follows through the genocide which took place in Rwanda in 1994 where over a million people died based on their ethnic group.. I loved this book because it was extremely informative when the US papers did hardly any coverage on this genocide which is known to be one of the worst ever.. I was graduating from high school at a time when millions were being massacred and I knew nothing.. Everyone should read this book to learn about what took place.

This book teaches you all about the "Columbian Exposition" (World's fair) that took place in Chicago at the turn of the century. This book will make you think you are interested in American history, however "true" scholars of the Worlds fair apparently don't like this book. I did. The two plots of the serial killer and the fair go together really nicely, but I kept waiting for the chapters about the serial killer. However, I must admit that if it was just a book about the serial killer it would've been too gruesome to finish. So many inventions came from this event. Read it, you'll be amazed.

I haven't read any of the other books in this series, and after reading this one I definitely won't! I found the characters to be so flat and silly, with no complexity at all, that they were more like "charactures." I am 50 something and I would hope that those of us in this age group have more depth and brains than the author has given these women. I wouldn't be able to stand a group of women like this!
