You don't have to love the stories, folklore, and superstitions of the "old country" as I do, thanks to by beloved Busha to thoroughly enjoy this novel that takes place in some unnamed Balkan country that has been ravaged by war. Bosnia, perhaps? Young doctor Natalia is grieving the death of her beloved grandfather & sets out to discover the secrets of his past based on the stories he has told her. The "deathless man"? The "tiger's wife"? Read and enjoy. My grandmother would love this one if she could ever read anything other than the "National Enquirer". Yes, that was how she learned to read English. God bless her.

I really wanted to enjoy this book. At first, I was hooked, trying to figure out just why this mother did this terrible awful thing and the demons that she was dealing with. Then, the main character all of a sudden has a story that is coincidently similar to the case she was investing. Then, a random love triangle is thrown in and the whole book shifts focus. Overall, I agree with a previous reviewer, this book makes it appear that every mother in america suffers from post-partem depression and every child is growing up in a harsh household. All mothers resent their children and all men are alcoholic, workaholics who either beat their wives or ignore them.

A couple good things about this book...the storyline was very promising. The president of the US taking over the country in a military coup. Great idea(for a story)! The prologue was also exciting and grabbed my attention. But after that I was quickly let down. I found some of the situations to be completely unbelievable. The character developement could have been better. The character of the girl who was the love interest could have been edited out. She was completely unnecessary to the story. All in all, OK but could have been better. Kindle edition had some formatting problems with dialogue.
