Even though I really liked the two main characters, Tessa Lee and Lil, it was just a bit too dark and graphic for me. Although it did end on a hopeful note that hinted at redemption.

I read 3 of these to meet my 50 books by the end of the year, even if it's sort of cheating. Something about this series has be drawn in. I think a teenage girl could better sympathize with Nana's problems, but I enjoy the storyline.

I enjoyed this book, and really thought the premise was new/intriguing. The beginning really captivated me--you really empathize with the sisters and how emotionally cumbersome their future must be without each other. However, I thought it could have been better. I agree with some of the other reviewers that towards the middle/end of the book the character development is really lacking and you lose interest as you lose a sense of how those people came to be. I did really enjoy the author's writing style and wished there could have been more detail as to why Ruthie and Julia did the things they did.
