Written by a rambling -and probably drunken- Englishman named John Bickerdyke in the mid 1880's, this book attempts to give a background on ale & beer. This is a bit of a whip, even with beer, to read all the way through. By skimming, you will see plenty of interesting bits of information, quotes, poems, etc.that make with picking up if you find it at a good price. Recommended for serious beer connoisseurs only.

Think you know how a man thinks? Think again! We need to learn to be more like them! This is a great read!

I hated this book. It was agonizing almost from the first sentence. I had to read it for an American fiction class. I literally had to PUSH myself to finish it. The last few chapters had me feeling like I was perhaps in a circle of hell called Philip Roth ... while eating a feiry side helping of "Required Reading". Awful. If you like getting your teeth drilled and / or pointy things jammed under your finger nails, give this book a shot. Otherwise, just steer clear. I'd like to tell that professor that he's an asshole.

My dad bought me this, though honestly I'm not into guitars. But I did learn a thing or two from the book.

Just as beautiful as it has always been. Magical.

When I read The Colour of Magic, I wasn't particularly looking forward to it and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't the best thing I'd ever read but was entertaining enough. There are plenty more Pratchett works on the Life List reading list, but I thought if I was going to read book four, I should probably try and read the ones in between. I do love keeping things in order. Perhaps it was because I knew it didn't count towards the list, or perhaps it just showed up how I really feel about these books, but I wasn't as thrilled with this one. It was still interesting enough, I wasn't bored, but I can't say I was eager to keep on turning the pages either. When I got to the end I was quite happy it was over. I like the characters, I like the satire, I particularly like the Luggage, but it just didn't grab me as I might have hoped it would. Nothing specifically stands out to complain about, and I know these books are much-loved, but I suppose they are just not for me. With so much to read, perhaps I had better abandon my plan of consuming the works in order, and just pick out the ones that have made it onto the list.

the prose was great but I could guess the resolution right from the begining. Even the name of the book spoils it.

I love Capote's writing style, and he truly is a prodigy. I think they said he wrote this in one sitting? And was less than 20 years old? Truly amazing that such a young person could create such characters.

The premise of this short story is essentially "What is the long term outcome of Superman?" where long-term starts at hundreds to thousands of years (and beyond). It's a very quick read, quite enjoyable and well thought out, with a few references to other famous SF ideas, such as Solyent Green.
