Most people think it's odd that Garrett Wood and Molly Bride are best friends. The place is Mississippi, the year 1927, and Garrett is white while Molly is black. But they ignore what everyone else says and remain friends. They're united in their dreams of getting away from their dreary lives on cotton farms. For some time now they've been saving money in a jar in the bayou. When the rising waters of the Mississippi threaten to put the bayou underwater, Garrett and Molly set out on their little homemade raft to retrieve the money. But instead, they end up being swept down the river. They encounter dangerous currents filled with debris, poisonous snakes, and storms. Their journey will truly test their courage and friendship. An exciting survival story with historical details about life in the south in the 1920s.

A very good romantic suspense that I enjoyed reading. This is my second book by Kaylea Cross, the other being the first book in her "Bagram Special Ops" series. The major flaw for me in "Out of Her League" was the excessive use of the word "kiddo" by Rayne when referring to Christa. It really bugged me after awhile. Maybe a silly complaint to make, but I just found it juvenile and very unromantic in most of the situations where it was used. There were some editing problems throughout the book but nothing so dramatic as to interrupt my enjoyment of the storyline. All in all, a well-thought out plot, strong characters, and very believable villain who turned my stomach.

I've read this book a couple times. The entire series is good (5 books so far) and have all kinds of fun historical "firsts" by the protagonist. Not quite as good as the first two, but not bad either.

I remember liking Diane Duane very much, years ago, so I was pleased when I stumbled across this book. It's a nice premise, has equally-strong male and female protagonists, and is written with a lot of feeling. It's also clever and has some nice imagery. On the other hand, it didn't grab me, or my daughter. It was a little awkward at times, and we never really got too attached to the characters. Will we pick up the next book? Maybe, maybe not. There's a lot to read out there. We're going to read through the sneak preview chapter of the second book. Guess we'll decide then. UPDATE: I take it back. Apparently I was wrong when I read my daughter's silence as apathy. We enjoyed the sneak preview of book two. When I asked her if she'd like to try the second book, she cried out (with feeling!) that she wanted them all! Well, she's got that blind collector's urge, but still, I was a little surprised at the loud response. So, we'll see!

A good story, but it was rather too long, which made it feel a bit tedious at times.

The Legend of: The Worst Boy in the World is the second story I have read by Eoin Colfer. Again, it is about a young boy Will who has three brothers. Will is the second oldest and he is constantly battling for the attention of his parents, and can never seem to find time to discuss his serious problems as his brothers keep his parents with their own issues (sticky up hair, or the need for a snooker table in the garage). Will therefore decides to use his grandfather as a weekly sounding board of the current issues in his life, only to find that his granddad always seems to have had a more serious problem at some time in his life (like a shark bite to the head to one up Wills hairdresser mishap). Will therefore sets out to discover if he has ever had a serious problem in his life, and hears a very surprising account of an incident from his younger life that he doesn’t remember. The strength of the book lays in the fact that the dialogue and banter between the brothers, and his family, always seems genuine and that it is reflective of any family unit. There are funny stories, and clear lessons to be learned from the bad behaviour of Wills older brother. Even the moral of the story is explicitly spelled out when Will admits at the end of the book that he doesn’t actually know what a moral is. So we are left in no doubt as to what Will has learnt. The book is lengthy for a young reader, but the large print and multitude of excellent illustrations mean that the pages fly by. The book would definitely be enjoyed by boys and girls alike, and could be read aloud to those under 7/8 who would love the mischievous behaviour the brothers always get up to.
Perfect.

I read this book last year and from what I can remember it was a very inspiring book. John is like many, I have not doubt, in the the national spot light unconditionally required to hide his sexuality. Great book.

Despite the hokey title, this is a remarkable work. Don't leave your house and start interacting with other humans until you've read this book.
