This book is amazing; it's written wonderfully, and it's about math, but great math knowledge is by no means required to understand and enjoy the novel. It's simply great fun and makes one think about what we take for granted in regards to our perception, and the great enormity of possibilities that we are simply unable to comprehend because of our total lack of experience with them. Flatland is a quick, fun read, that leaves the reader trying to figure out how higher dimensions actually work, with (at least in my case), rather limited success.

I laughed out loud at least once every ten pages. This is one of the best things I've read. He is so honest and isn't ashamed of saying the things he's thinking, even though a lot of people would disagree with him. I disagreed with him a lot as well. But it was still hilarious. And he has some really great points.

I found this to be an interesting read. It is the author's first published novel. The book tells the story of a teenage boy with a photographic memory joining the ranks of an institution of people with similiar mental abilities who serve as society's means of recording information. There's some awkwardness in the narration, but I can't tell if it's from the author, or if the author is getting into character as a person whose talents and vocation set him far apart from the rest of society (the novel is written in the first person). If it is all the latter, then bravo. I also liked the frequent chapter breaks, often after just a page or two. Hooray for new writers who are not being paid by the word and have to get their point across as directly as possible.
