I really liked this one from David. One of his best.

What I like about Deaver is the ability to cross information throughout the series without being dull, repetitive or patronising. In this one we have plenty of familiar characters, who all have history that shapes the way they work. There’s even a glimpse of one of the criminals from a previous book, and at no step of the way was I thinking “shh, I know this, get on with it.” That could be to do with my bad memory though. Anyway, the story itself is completely terrifying. As someone who shares part of their life on the internet, I have learnt plenty about privacy, but this book – about crimes involving data mining – opened my eyes to a whole other level. It almost makes you want to log off everything and go and live in a cave, but even then, they’d probably be able to track you somehow. This story is rather less graphic than some of the others, although there is still plenty of blood and death. If you can stand it, you should give it a read, if only to give yourself a taster of the “Big Brother is Watching You” world we live in.

I didn't like the ending, but everything up until the that's-a-really-stupid-reason-for-being-a-mass-child-murderer bit was good. Grant captures the logic and worldview of a child--the misunderstanding of the adult world, the belief in the possibility of the supernatural, the pain of being ostracized. She also does a good job of evoking life in a small German town.

From the begining I was in love with the evernight series. Each book taking me into a loving, breath taking, and yet so very refreshing adventure. Afterlife delievered that enduring love that Bianca and Lucus both have for one another, as well as the struggles that love often put before any relationships. I was glad to see unity, which was so need to bring family, friends, human, wraith, and vampire together. In addition I love the outlook that was given toward lifes choices. A pleasure to read, but agony to have it revealed that this is the final book. :(
I've never heard of Jacquelyn Mitchard and plucked this book off the shelf at the Library and to my surprise, I really liked this book. It was a thriller wrapped with a little romance. I really wanted to jump inside and kill one of the characters myself; therefore, I know it was a good book. Plus, the writer lives in Madison, WI ;-)

I'm 1/4 of my way through it. Man, I love Weinberger. Jaz was right. If Eliot were writing in France, he'd be a national treasure.

I'll always read what Lee writes, but I'm baffled by the critical praise this book received. His narrator is a retired landscaper who's Italian-American, but I just never bought that Lee was comfortable in this skin. He alternates between overwriting aggressively long sentences and using slang and tough-guy talk that just never seems plausible, as if the narrator has to remind himself of his role but continues to fall out of character. Some sentences were so tangled by their ambition, I'd find myself unable to get past them; they were so intractable. It's not that I couldn't believe a landscaper could philosophize for pages about human potential, but that the man seemed to be torn between two voices that never quite met. Regardless of his narrator's background, Lee can get caught up in his love for particular words like "angle" (v.) and "accrue" and I couldn't help wondering if there was a 12-step program for getting over such a specific idiolect addiction (ah, an editor). Thankfully, he manages to make everything come together in that last tenth of the book and we understand what he's been building up to, like a puzzle that suddenly reveals itself (or perhaps that's my convincing myself it was worth the struggle), but it ultimately can't fully erase my memory of all the awkward passages that preceded it. (2.5 stars)

I (and I suspect many others) know of Saro-Wiwa mainly as a human rights advocate executed by the Nigerian government in the 90s, but this book makes it quite clear he was also a talented writer. These short stories focus on a range of characters, either in the village of Dukana or in the neighboring city. The stories are by turns touching, bitter and darkly funny.
