** spoiler alert ** This series went downhill for me. I found the first book about Sarah fascinating, while the other two lacked that interesting character development and connection with the Bible for me. The last installment was an interesting view of how the marriage of Leah and Jacob may have come about - with Rachel fearing the wedding at such a young age, and Laban just trying to save his household from disgrace. I enjoyed hearing another outlook, as many can probably agree that the Bible account leaves a lot to the imagination. I was surprised to learn at the end that the series isn't finished. Had I known that from the beginning, I have enjoyed this book more. Overall, worth a read through, but not my favorite.

A stunning, hallucinatory tour-de-force from the writer better known for 'Lord of the Flies'. I found this book through a mention in Richard Adams' 'Plague Dogs', in which Adams basically said "It's amazing, and you should read it once you've finished this one". Good advice, so I'm passing it on!

Fun to read and imagine, set in Minnesota.

I was intrigued with the author's idea of having a constant "Need" to help strangers, a representation of angel on earth, the so called the Forgotten. While the idea itself is interesting, the execution of the whole thing is flat and anti-climatic. The dialogues are dry, and there's hardly a character in this book that I come to like or memorable to say the least. I find myself really hard to like or even care for Charlotte Cassidy, for all her role and sacrifices that she made. The way she portrayed in the book only came off to me as whiny, weak, boring, and who only think of her boyfriend, Harlin. Oh, can I say that the relationship between her and Harlin is too cheesy to bear? Overall, this is an okay book, but very forgettable. Probably not worth the time and money.

*Review originally posted April 2009.* I'm going to start by saying that I was disappointed in this book big-time. I had heard that it was a quick read, but I was thinking maybe it would be a high-quality quick read, and I didn't find that. Honestly, I was kind of disappointed in it. The back of the cover makes it sound very interesting, but when I was reading it, it really wasn't. It was pretty predictable and the plot, in my opinion, could've used some work. Another thing that annoyed me was the use of so many exclamation points. It kind of felt like almost every other thing was being exclaimed and that really got on my nerves after about the first fifty pages. However, the author did a good job with making the characters personalities. The personalities were pretty much there from the beginning to pick up on, and they pretty much stayed consistent through the whole book. Another thing the author did good with was the CLIFFHANGER ENDING. I wasn't planning on reading the second book in the series, but after the cliffhanger ending, I HAD to get it to find out what would happen. Overall, I didn't find Vampire Kisses to be a very prime book. It was predictable and could've used a lot less exclamation points. There are many better vampire series' out there to read.

A counting book that left too many unanswered questions to appeal to the masses. 10 black birds use various materials and machines to get themselves over a river. Each one gets across until the 10th bird decides to use the bridge. An odd duck that will appeal to the technical-minded and those with a soft spot for non-sequiters. Yeah, not for the masses. But memorable. -T
