Nice story of forbidden love in the 1850's, with an Amish girl and a man helping slaves through the underground railroad. Would have liked to hear more about Asa, the freed slave, but all in all a good read. There's a trilogy, so I'll be looking for the next in the series.

This book is a gumbo - full of tons of ingredients and flavors. I happen to prefer soups (and books) with a more simple seasoning. If you like your novels to be fairly fast paced and with chunks of various genres, then I can recommend Truly, Madly. While it was certainly a good little book, I felt there was too much going on, as if the author was trying to write a book that would appeal to everyone whether they liked romance, chick lit, or cozy mysteries, or something else altogether. That is a commendable goal, but I would have preferred more concentration on the main points, even if that caused the book to go slower. The characters, though the abundance of them could cause confusion at times, were a redeeming factor overall. Lucy, the main character, is a sweet girl whose best talent is simply helping people, and I felt that she is just coming to realize that in this novel. She is able to put her "power" to good use, and the side story about missing little boy Max was my favorite part. Her attraction to Sean is intense, but the constantly looming cloud of "Cupid's Curse" was a tad bit annoying and unsatisfying, although I understand the author couldn't exactly have them running off to the chapel at the end of the book. Then what could we look forward to in the sequel?

** spoiler alert ** Interesting story developments, but it took too long to get there; the story was bogged down by way too much angst. What happened to Ash's determination and will? Now all she does is weep and moan over a guy. And I can see Donia being upset, but actually stabbing someone?! What's with the complete 180 in her character, especially since she hated Biera? Also, I liked Ash and Kenan together, so kind of disappointed that it doesn't seem to be going that way. My guess is that Kenan will become Winter King (kind of foreshadowed when the Dark King mentioned he could have belonged to Biera's court) and Seth will be the new Summer King. Meh. I just want Ash to toughen up and decide her own destiny. Enough of the angst already! I liked the High Queen and the world of Fairey. Always more interesting when seeing something new. Also, kind of annoyed by the cliffhanger ending. Guess I'll have to wait for book four for the actual action.

This book was nearly a philosophical tract about collecting and Geoff Nicholson's personal search to understand it. For a book that purports to be about other people, Nicholson's voice is all over it, packed into every remote nook and cranny. The collectors themselves are almost after thoughts. Not what I was expecting though it was interesting to read.
