I only read this book because it was highly reviewed in Kindle Store and was a free download. It was a good book. It is a series, and the book was good, but I'm not jumping to read the next in the series the way I normally would. Reason: At times it was difficult to read and perhaps too wordy.

The local kids think Miss Slade is a witch. She lives in an old trailer, wears shapeless and dirty clothes, and has lots of animals. But when two new kids move in nearby, the lonely old woman gets her wish for some friends. A great book about compassion, prejudice, and how the past can dog a person. Told with King-Smith's trademark humor and wit.

This book was significantly better than City of Bones, making me very glad I decided to stick with the series. Clare seems to have figure out how to properly narrate things from various perspectives, and the story no longer seemed so predictable, and is in fact very hard to put down. The whole emotional awkwardness this book dredges up brings up some interesting moral conundrums and I can't help but being a little disgusted with myself for how badly I want Jace and Clary to somehow work things out. And yes, I am still holding on tightly to the possibility that this just might happen in a way that isn't disturbing and completely taboo. The one thing that really irked me was the weather. Supposedly this book took place within something like two weeks of the first one. City of Bones started in the summer, and from what I gathered, the beginning or middle of it. Now, suddenly, the weather is cold and it's fall out, but these 16 year old kids aren't going to school? Some of the extenuating circumstances might be an excuse for many of them, but Simon? Come on. I live in New York, 'late summer' doesn't really cool down enough to excuse this setting. Meh, a small detail I need to get over, but every time it was brought up it really annoyed me.

Oh, to be in gothic-y Barcelona...I don't think I've ever been as absorbed in a city's atmosphere in a book as much as in this and The Shadow of the Wind. I can only imagine how much Zafon's childhood library and/or bookstore impressed him growing up. The magic hold of words written on paper, he is a truly impressive Modern-day conjurer. I only wish the immensely talented Lucia Graves could translate faster. I'm anxiously waiting for all his other stories to unfold, they must be swimming around Zafon's head. I'd like to hear Isaac's for one. Anyway I cannot wait to return to the Cemetery...

Probably my favorite Pynchon book of all. The relationship between Mason & Dixon is something completely different from his other works.

I don't really recommend this book. His other books are much better. I found it difficult to connect with the main character - Charlotte - and could not believe the great number of blunders she makes throughout the book.

I have "read" half so far. And you don't read pynchon, you work through him.
