I should stop trying to expand my horizons. I know I don't like short stories, so why keep trying to force it? I can't even tell if you if these short stories were good or not because I didn't "get" them at all. That is, except for Innocent Erendira (the title story) which I liked quite a bit (it was much longer and more developed than the others).

Being a Lutheran and growing up in NW Wisconsin, there were many things I didn't understand, basically because I know very little about the Jewish faith. I hated the father of the main character. It was a good book but too many unanswered questions at the end. I want closure, people!

I love a good story and a good fantasy story at that (Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Odyssey...) This book was so incredible. I have to include it as one of the greats. I hope that this series will one day be considered a classic. I don't see how it cannot! I love a book that evokes many different emotions and this did that. I was happy, sad, intrigued, awed, frustrated, etc. It took me forever to read it because I had to milk it for all its worth. The only feeling it didn't leave me with was satisfaction. I am impatient and I can't wait for the second book to be in my hand. Good job Mr. Rothfuss! You are a great storyteller.

This book started out great. The characters were clearly written and the story they revealed promised to be an interesting one. Unfortunately, the story devolved into a bad love story where the main characters knew they loved each other because they, well, hated each other. Huh? Blame the author. Ayn Rand did have some genuinely insightful observations regarding how society is shaped. Those in power define what is beautiful, good , popular, well-written, well designed, or funny. Several of her characters found great joy in promoting the unworthy just to see others blindly follow suit with their praise. We haven't changed much.

This book should be required reading in every high school in the country. It takes the theory of evolution and presents it in a way that is accessible to the general public. If you have had much post-secondary education in the biological sciences, you may not want to bother with this one; the concepts may seem elementary and you may grow bored. Don't be too quick to dismiss it, though, as Dawkins' writing is both fun and easy to read. The text has become very slightly dated after 20+ years (i.e., references to those newfangled CD contraptions), but the concepts are timeless.
