Delivery was one of the better books I’ve read this year, presenting the perfect balance of light-hearted humor and intensity. The characters were unique enough to prevent predictability, without hindering my attachment to them or ability to empathize with them. Initially, I was drawn to Livi, a confused and hurting young woman struggling to make sense of her world and the loss of her brother. However, by the end of the novel, I’d fallen in love with Jake, a man who embodied true, forever-love. After the loss of her brother, Livi slips into a world of alcoholism, distrust, and bitterness. For much of the novel, she runs from God and withdraws from the love of her co-workers. Yet, no matter how hard Livi tries to free herself from their love, they remain constant and by her side. The close-knit atmosphere Diana created in the flower shop most of the story is centered in evoked a warm feeling of nostalgia within me and reminded me of the effectiveness of committed friendship. I also enjoyed the frequent change of tones throughout the novel. Just when I thought my heart would break, Diana Prusik plunged me into a lighter scene that managed to produce a few authentic laugh-out-loud moments. Then, when I least expected it—Bam!—the intensity changed, and I found myself fighting tears once again. This novel was one that will stay with me on many levels, reminding me to cherish the relationships I have, refusing to let them go without a fight.

Gritty, sensual historical fiction with a tight, fast-paced plot. Scenes from a shady Depression-era traveling circus are intertwined with the present day, with the narrator/hero at 93 years of age and craving to escape his oppressive life in an assisted living center. It's quite an emotional ride with a thrilling and ultimately satisfying conclusion.

not good to read on a farm in the middle of nowhere.

This book is fresh and intriguing. I read it on the recommendation of a college professor. I had honestly not heard of Asperger's syndrome before. I learned something and enjoyed the story!

Wonderfully funny, informative, and oddly sweet, just like all of Bryson's work. I especially enjoyed the stories about his early childhood, as well as the history and trivia that he drops in. We have something in common: A sense of melancholy about the homogenization of small-town America.

This book was much better than the third one, yet it still read like the ghostwriter's style to me. It would be that way foreverafter. I found it pretty predictable on the whole. And the vengeful old man character having been in the background of every book is just plain annoying. The uncle seemed exactly like the old servant from the third book, who was just like Malcolm. A circle of cookie cutter men. I was pleasantly surprised with Cathy's character in this book. Rather than the stupid decision-maker from second book and the bad mother figure in the third book, Cathy transformed into a wise woman. Applause! I especially like her description of what love is in the book. Cathy, you grew up...shame it took you this long! Some parts to it also seemed forced. Let's make Jory happy by having his caretaker fall in love with him! No, really! Eh, I just couldn't get a real feel from that. Bart's sorrow at the end did feel real. I really did feel like he finally realized how much Chris meant to him, but when he started preaching it felt forced. You know who really ticked me off in this book? The daughter. I can't remember her name, oops, but she made all the same dumb mistakes Cathy made at her age. Yet another thing of the sins of the mother falling upon the children...the most frustrating thing about it was that she proclaimed her innocence and everyone believed her, only to find out she was truly a liar and a slut. The ending hit me like a ton of bricks. I was shocked to the core; this was the only shock I experienced in the book and since everything else was so predictable I did NOT see that coming. What a wonderful ending it was, though.

Props to Nicky S for switching this one up at the end...damn his stories are so templetized, but still SO GOOD!
