Talbot Course: Biblical Leadership and Management Highly Recommend this book! Lots of great, true stories to tie in to the Proverbs! It's fun to read and puts a lot of leadership management principles into focus.

An interesting book, because the language feels older, and if I knew modernist British literature better, I'd guess it sounds like it. Thematically, it seems to address the transition to modernism, as seen through the detective protagonist's reconciliation of his childhood memories with what has happened since then to his home (Shanghai International Section) and to his family. So it's a sort of growing up and growing into modernism. What gets me is it seems so overly narcissistic, but perhaps that is Ishiguro's critique of the transition into modernism. I'm not really sure, but it's interesting enough for me to want to read more by him.

As a fan of Arthurian legend and a burgeoning little feminist, I really loved this book in high school. Wonder what I'd think of it now . . .

Simple, stark, beautiful. The struggle for Cuba's freedom is another story that hasn't been told but needs to be.

I honestly thought I would like this book more than I did. I do have to say that I'm not really in the mood right now for how this book is..... how sad the characters all seemed to me.... and that may be affecting my rating. I did love hearing about the time period and how Paris was at that time while it was teeming with artists and writers and poets. I just ended up sad and upset at all of the characters except for a couple. There were a couple of redeeming people in there. So it was just ok for me.

Kling is such a charming storyteller. When he was interviewed for Almanac (Twin Cities public tv) he said that tells his stories for 15 years or so and then he writes them down. I love to hear him tell stories, and I feel fortunate that I know his voice well enough to "hear" him in my head as I'm reading these stories. If you read this book along with Holiday Inn, you'll find some repetition--he retells the story from a slightly different point or uses part of one story as a transition to another, but I didn't let it bother me. This is a very fast read and very Minnes'oh'tan. I enjoyed it very much.
