Not bad but not great. It was slow in the beginning but had a realistic and satisfying ending.

I don't know what to say...wonderfully written, it kept me always wanting more. However, it let me down at the end...I felt like the author ran out of ideas and got tired at the end. It was not the ending I expected or wanted. Maybe that's the way it's supposed to be, just as in life we don't get always the ending we expected nor deserved:)

Quite liked this. It's on the Young Adult Lit continuum, but I don't think it's really written for / marketed to a young adult audience? I could be wrong. Teenage protagonist, horrifying outside factors, internal turmoil, and throughout it all the audience is reminded that the struggle between self and self is as brutal and dangerous as the struggle between self and other. I'd recommend this to adults who used to be 'the weird kid' and to all teenagers. Either they'll relate, or they'll get really creeped out: win/win!

A Five Star Riveting and Challenging Read Jason McIntyre has written this chilling tale giving readers a vivid picture with explicit detail. Hannah Garretty is a stunning and beautiful girl with a great job, great friends and with a great talent for photography. Yet, she has a harrowing past with many demons. She struggles with painful memories of being victimized but refuses to be a victim and ultimately becomes a victor. I can’t say “On The Gathering Storm” is an easy read, it is sometimes challenging like a crossword puzzle. But, it is a tale of survival. I believe men who read this novel will learn that women are fragile and delicate, but they can rise up to the task when push comes to shove. I believe women who have been victimized will come to the realization that they do have the strength to overcome.

Enjoyed the book very much. Larsson continues to develop characters that I truly feel I know and care about. They are complext and at times it seems to take an effort to read all of the details but it is well worth it. This second book in the trilogy is full of plot twists and surprises as well as the further development of Lisbeth. My only criticism is that the ending was somewhat unsatisfactory. While I know this is part of a trilogy, the first book did not leave me hanging per se, rather it left me wanting more about these characters. This second book, however, left me hanging regarding the plot as well. While I don't mind this, I think it is a somewhat overused tactic and I thought Larsson did an excellent job of avoiding it with the first installment. Enjoy!

This novel was stunning in its writing -- full of beautiful, descriptive prose. There was a lot of foreshadowing in it, which I usually don't care for (I'm much more a fan of straightforward narration), but Roy's skill with the English language helped me to get over that aspect. I particularly loved her descriptions of people, houses, and objects. Very painterly and evocative.

I rather liked this lively biography of Queen Victoria. As I've read a small mountain of books (sixty or so) about her, many of which would be exceedingly dull and plodding for someone less obsessed with the subject than myself, it was very refreshing to find a biography that concentrated less on the weighty political issues of the era and more on Victoria as a person. Though this book does tend to concentrate on Victoria's bad points, it felt to me as if the author had researched the queen and found a great deal of negative information and was putting it down somewhat reluctantly, as I thought she had a genuine liking for her subject. After many weighty tomes, this was a nice bit of light relief to curl up with a nice cup of tea and a biscuit with, but don't take it as an excessively scholarly volume. Mind you, any book called 'Her Little Majesty' is unlikely to be placed alongside the biographies of Elizabeth Longford or Cecil Woodham-Smith.
