Read the STOP SMILING interview with Thomas Frank: We're Not in Kansas Anymore By JC Gabel Whether Thomas Frank has enough time to think about it or not, he is a hero to underground publishers. He's also an author, a lecturer and, on most afternoons, an outspoken social critic. Fifteen years ago, Frank started The Baffler, a journal of cultural criticism, in his undergraduate dorm room at the University of Virginia. The Baffler's intelligent look at American culture immediately garnered a fervent readership around the country. In the late 80s, Frank moved the fledgling magazine to the cozy South Side Chicago neighborhood of Hyde Park, home to the University of Chicago where, in 1994, he received his Ph.D. in U.S. History. In 1997, after years of underground publishing, Frank and fellow Baffler cohort Matt Weiland edited and released Commodify Your Dissent: Salvos from the Baffler (W.W. Norton). Frank and Co. seized the day and gained access to a wider audience... Read the STOP SMILING interview...

I met Ms. Garcia at a reading in Charlotte-- her presence, her reading, not to mention her poems, blew me away. Afterwards, she gave me her "reading copy" of this book, saying that she could tell I was a really great listener. What a class act!

Regency romance can not get cuter than this. I absolutely adored the heroine.

OMG I loved this book! Saw it on a shelf of the then popular Borders Books and Music, but did not pick it up until I got a Kindle and was in search of the first official book to download. I picked this historical treat because I had recently finished a time-related novel and did not feel the need to shake that kick just then. After the death of her beloved great-aunt, Julie Jacobs travels to Siena Italy in pursuit of a 'family treasure'. She finds the treasure alright, along with a handsome Italian from a rival family, new friends and old secrets, and a treasure hunt that rivals 'National Treasure' and 'The Da Vinci Code', all revolving around the classic story of Romeo and Juliet. The plot and dialogue are easy to follow, and the characters are easy to relate to. The setting is stunning, the cast is awesome...did I mention the gorgeous Italian??? What's not to love!

Dangg! These girls just can't stay out of trouble. It's like they are addicted to it, and need it to thrive. All they ever do is sit there and think about what more they can do to ruin their life and give A a little somethign more to hold onto. But overall, this book was just as good as the others. A lot of things were explained, and like all Pretty Little Novels, it ended with your jaw dropping.

An excellent read and will surely make you pine for good food in small restaurants or the homes of great cooks. Her story is compelling and her journey kind of amazing. Prune is without a doubt one of my (and many others) favorite restaurants and the woman is a genius in writing about how food makes its way through the kitchen and how it makes you feel. Still, the last 1/4 of the book is really disappointing. Focused on her family, she comes off as spoiled and really arrogant and I was quite surprised. I wish she had stuck to the earlier part of her life and saved the family drama for a second volume. I very highly recommend it anyway.
