Great book with lots of real information, and a great magical premise that is appealing to children. Neat graphic presentation also (I prefer some of Stanley's other drawing style, but this is very colorful & my kids loved it). Nice to see a children's book with real history in it!

I really enjoyed this book. It was neat to "meet" all of the characters for the first time, as I have read many of other books from the series. Quick and fun read.

Very much enjoyed this. Loved her writing style. If I learned anything from this story, it was to persevere. "Keep moving forward." "Never give up. Never Surrender." My mom recommended this series saying she loved the first book. I was slow to pick up this book. It is a fantasy book, but filled with Irish folklore and tales. It was very interesting. Sorcha is faced with an incredible task to save her brothers. I love the relationship she has with her brothers. I am not sure I would have been able to accomplish all she had to do. I found the tale moving and inspiring in a way. Her love for her family and her commitment to her goal gave her the strength to put up with persecution, unfairness. Plus, I would take Red over Edward any day of the week- maybe even Darcy (yes, I just said I like someone better than Darcy, probably depends on my mood). I will put a SPOILER here, just to warn others who may be sensitive to something like this- there is a rape scene. It is brief and not really graphic, but you definitely know what was going on. Just beware.

The story of one woman's search to find out what happened to a child in WWII Paris, and how their lives are entwined. Well written and engaging, I liked this enough to pick up the author's next book.

Probably the best science fiction novel I read this year. We find ourselves in a post apocalyptic world that has strict social protocols built around color perception. Jasper Fforde pieces together an interesting caste system where Reds are near the bottom, just above the Greys. Eddie Russet as a Red is not someone of importance and his curiousity and ingenuity also have no place in this society built upon rules that often make no sense, like being against the law to manufacture spoons. Eddie also has a secret. He percieves more red than most. That makes him special, even at the bottom. He's also about to meet a Grey who has bigger secrets than Eddie could even imagine. Clever, adventurous, and with just the right touch of ridiculousness. Jasper Fforde outshines many of the best Scifi authors I know.

Kathryn loaned me this book and said, "Everyone I suggest this book to says no thanks but end up loving it." So I took it on vacation and put it off as my second book. Once I got into it (about 10 pages), it was really, really good. I can't say it was hard to put down as I was seriously jet-lagged and sick on my trip, but I was always anxious to get back to it. I finished it somewhere over the Atlantic coming home. Lots of action, and the characters were not predictable. I'm probably heading to BnN to get the sequel today, although I know Kathryn has it to lend. I also doubted its Young Adult categorization, as the language was more advanced than I expected. But I was sick afterall. Very good read, and excellent for vacation. I think Vacation-Ready is a category we should load very carefully. Its important.
