I thought this was absolutely charming. The writing was intelligent and had depth, yet wasn't too flowery. The plot went quietly for a while, and then things started to come together at the end. I enjoyed hearing the comments of those who had passed, as they were fiesty and very human. (Notice, we never heard Lydia's comments.) I also enjoyed how the historical background made dry facts come alive.

I think this is one of the most fascinating mystery novels I have read. The first book was great, and this book not only continues the story but recasts the first book in a new light. I did not mind the "chatty" narrative, though I would not want a steady diet of it. As a one-off, it was a nice change from the "mind-reading" of a third-person narrative. Though this book can be read independently, it is better to read the fist novel beforehand.

Kyra stalks Marco intent on killing him. But Marco almost kills Kyra with his poison blood. Or at least as close as a mortal can come to killing an immortal. But Kyra doesn't give up easy. She follows Marco to his father's funeral in his hometown and impersonates his vapid ex-girlfriend. instead of killing Marco, Kyra ends up trapped with him in a house.The attraction is like a flame, lighting both of their world's on fire. But when Marco figures out who Kyra is, the attraction goes hay-wire. Add in Ares minion's arrival and things really get interesting. Kyra and Marco split up but reunite in the Congo, and are now facing an African War God, as well as Kyra's Daddy. What will be the fate of Marco and Kyra's love? If you didn't already know this, I love Greek mythology. Stephanie brought all the Greek mythology and sprinkled modern times on it, with a side of steamy. Kyra is not your typical damsel in distress and Marco is a monster-less monster. I loved how both characters evolved without changing who they were. I read this book in like 6th grade. I really enjoyed it then, and just remember sobbing and sobbing after reading the afterward. It's about a camp for handicapped and retarded kids and how the excel. After making you cheer and root for these kids, the afterward explains that they have all died b/c of their sickly conditions, a real tear jerker.

This was a stunning and informative book. Great for about 6th grade and up, but might work for younger kids as well if they are willing to work through the longer narrative sections. The pictures were amazing, and I learned so many new things about Antarctica. I'm trying to read more children's and teen nonfiction, and I'm glad I started with this.
