Amazing title. One of the most interesting books I have ever read. This is Nibley's philosophical view of the metaphysical to the extreme. Almost the entire book is speculation. The way he thinks about the creation, space, physics and how they all relate to the temple is unreal. Amazing.

I quite enjoyed this book. It's worth a second look. Okay, I'll stop rhyming. The two things I liked most about this book were its readability and intriguing illustrations. The book is written on a level so that high school students could pick it up and understand it. The ink illustrations are marvelous and help the book go by fast. I will use excerpts from this book to teach my creative writing students. Although I have read and studied poetry since college and am now in my 7th year of teaching, I learned a few new things from this book, including the new L-A-N-G-U-A-G-E movement. I'm knocking off one star because the book was obviously rushed since it includes a high number of typos and grammatical errors.

Note to self: This is what you get when you choose a book based solely on your crush on Nathan Fillion. Please, don't do it again. Okay, I liked this book a lot more than I liked Along Came a Spider, hence the 2 stars. But when I say 'liked' I mean it only took me one month to read Kiss the Girls instead of two like last time. Although I find the plot interesting--I saw the movie back when it came out and I remember enjoying it--I found the book to be way too long, drawn-out and boring. It needed a lot more action and a lot less of Alex Cross's personal life. And I don't like him any more than I did in the first book. I have a tiny crush on John Sampson. I want to know more about Kyle Craig. I found the kidnappers/murderers interesting. Hell, I care about that random guy in the bar parking lot more than I do about Alex Cross. I'm still not sure exactly what it is, but the character really annoys me.

This is book one of the series so there is a lot of world building. Setting the scene for this very damaged former spy. Gabriel Allon lost everything while working for Israeli intelligence. His wife and child were murdered because of him. He left the agency and focused on his passion for art and has become an internationally renowned art restorer. But when the murderer of his family strikes down others, Allon is convinced to act. It is a well researched novel and meticulous in its detail. Sometimes that's tedious to read. Allon is a sympathetic character but the enemy was also made sympathetic as well. The horror goes in all directions when talking about Middle East terror. I will definitely continue reading the series (I listened to a later book and it was terrific) but this one took a while to get into and get through.

** spoiler alert ** 3.5 stars I really enjoyed this book until just after halfway. ***SPOILERS AHEAD*** This is going to be quite short because I tend to rant when I am even the slightest bit worked up. Usually when a book ends, whether they stand-alone, end-of-series, part-way-through-series, etc. I feel some-sort of closure. There is no closure in this book!!! Or at least me having a sense of peace about it. I don't know what it is about the author but I really don't like all the twists in these books. Not just because of the surprises or that I didn't like them--which I did not!!! But because they felt staged. Even when things happen in books and I don't like them I always get the fact that that was inevitable, or was 'meant-to-be', here, it all just felt like it was set-up to happen. That is where I am stopping because I may go decapitate a chicken. Okay, well maybe I am not done... Bianca...a wraith...really?!?!?! *Sputters incoherently* Lucas...vampire?!?!?! Well about to be one--wait, I wanted this to happen, plus it was inevitable. I am so happy my silly joke prediction about Raquel and Dana was right, I feel very high-and-mighty now, well not really, but self-satisfied??? Maybe. That is all, careful if you are going to read this book, even though I just gave away the major points. It may leave you confused about how to feel about it. By the way, I hope these books do not get made into a movie. With all the book series' getting made or announced recently into a movie (Fever series rights sold to Dreamworks, MI, Hunger Games, etc.), I really would not want to see this because of the ending of this book. I can only imagine what the last one, Afterlife, will bring.

As before, Larsson seems to wallow in depravity. The book also wastes a lot of time early on (do we really need several pages on Lisbeth's shopping spree?). But the last couple of hundred pages are worth the wait.

Sam Vimes achieves wonders through his efforts to be home every night at six to read a book to Young Sam, and a dwarf minister named Grag Bashfulsson does some great cleverness and badly needs to be slashed with someone or other, and I actually cried a little when they finally found the Koom Valley Cube and listened to what it had to say about what really happened in the battle. (Summary: The dwarves and the trolls had a great historic battle at Koom Valley, and deep-underground city dwarves seem to be trying to create another one.)

** spoiler alert ** Unfortunately, both Lost Souls and Dead Town are actually a bit redundant. After the first three excellent books, originally intended to be a trilogy, Koontz decided to write a second trilogy to continue the adventures of Deucalion and his battle against Victor Frankenstein. Koontz never made it that far. Both the fourth and fifth book aren't bad. Actually, they are still enjoyable but the story has lost it's pacing and thrill. A new threat is introduced with the clone of Victor, who continued his plan to wipe out humanity with some minor variations, only to be stopped (again) by Deucalion and the two (now former) homicide detectives Carson and Michael. Even Koontz himself must've realised that he was copying a great story but that it was the same story he'd already written. The planned sixth book never got written and the series wraps up with Dead Town. Like i said, it's not that it's a bad story. There's still enough to enjoy but it's not enough to recommend both this book and it's sequel. Read the first three books and then stop. There are lot of better books out there. A lot of those are even written by Koontz, it's just that Lost Souls and Dead Town aren't among those.
