Belum terbit aja, buku ini sudah wara wiri kemana2, wajar jika ketika sudah terbit pesanan membludak, termasuk saya yg mengantri utk *pinjam heheheh, akhirnya beli juga ^_^. Dan gak sabar ketika membuka halaman pertama, pengen tau kelanjutan kisah Mas Gagah dan Gita. Ternyata eh ternyata buku ini kumpulan noveletnya HTR, hayhayhay, pantes kisah Ketika Mas Gagah Pergi dan Kembali cuma 64 halaman, dan daku terus membolak balik isi buku, mungkin saja kisahnya terselip, aku berusaha mencari kelanjutannya dan aarrrggghhh...cuma sampai sgitu ceritanya heuheuheu... Keknya Gita nikah deh sama Si Mas Baju Kotak kotak

This was a pretty disturbing book at times. It's amazing that he turned out a reasonably sane person. You'll absolutely despise Dede Wilsey by the end. I hope that the publication of this book brought great humiliation to her life.

In this memoir, Alberto Ulloa Bornemann takes readers through the time he spent in a terrifying political prison as a result of his subversive activity in Mexico during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He details his participation with and aid to famed revolutionary Lucio Cabañas, his trip to Cuba, and the effects his activity had on his family and his political beliefs. Even though Ulloa spends nearly 200 pages illustrating his rebellious behavior, his narrative is fraught with conservative remnants of a high-class upbringing that even brutal physical torture could not expel from him. His attitudes toward women and the poor are impossible to hide, and readers are meant to understand that revolution is ultimately not worth the trouble it causes. Ulloa may be disappointed to know that his combination of “memory and literary imagination” (1) does not serve to discourage burgeoning revolutions but rather the contrary, since the author himself, with his upper-class safety net, disdainful attitude toward the poor and near constant objectification of women is the type of person revolutionaries generally fight against.

This delightfully engaging tale features Lucy Valentine, heir to the matchmaking business Valentine, Inc. The Valentines use their powers of aura reading (legendarily bestowed by Cupid, himself) to unite their clients in romantic relationships. Lucy, however, had an unfortunate lightning-related mishap as a teenager, and her psychic power now manifests as an ability to find lost objects. When Lucy's father needs to take a break from his business, Lucy apprehensively agrees to step in. Suddenly, she's making matches, and with the help of Sean, the studly PI upstairs, also investigating a possible murder. Lucy is a witty, charming and refreshing character, as are her friends and relatives. The narrative reads like a snappy, overly verbal television show. In fact, it would make a great television show, now that I think of it. The "will they/won't they" sexual tension of Lucy and Sean's relationship, the lost-object-mystery-of-the-week premise, the zany supporting characters. Yes, an excellent television show. ABC should option this. Immediately. My one complaint is that I had guessed the twist-y resolution to the whole murder mystery about halfway in, and that some of the other pairings seemed a little predictable, as well. But, I suppose it's impossible to be completely original. I did enjoy reading it very much, even though I knew what was going to happen, and I will be looking forward to the next volume in this series.

Bought it in Japan as a last minute souvenir at the rtain station. It's interesting. But the best thing about it is that it reinforces how good Memoirs of a Geisha is in terms of accuracy!

Funny, insightful, smart as hell, White Noise casts a dark cloud over the US narrative of consumption, intelligentsia, popular culture and exposes our self-consuming fear of death. Absolutely brilliant.
