Fascinating narrative about the Boston molasses disaster in 1919 - who knew about the extent and impact outside Boston? As ever with these books the story is made interesting by the context. If well told it sets the scene and makes for human interest. This book is strong in that area explaining the historical perspective in terms of international and national politics, economics etc. Covers the lead up to the disaster, the event itself and the subsequent trial. Very illuminating.

This was a short book about the Gospel of Judas that has recently come to the forefront and garnered much attention. Wright takes time analyzing why people cling to "new discoveries" and what this implies in our culture. He then goes on to explain what this material does bring to light and then what it does not by specifically responding to much writing by Gnostics. I am certainly no theologian(just enjoy it as a lowly layman) and so this was not something that really came across my radar. If I was not so invested in reading everything that Wright has done, it would have been even longer before I heard about it. That said, I did not have too much invested in hearing specifically on the topic so while I did enjoy it, it was certainly not one of my favorite of his. I am very thankful to be hearing of this from a source I enjoy/trust so much, though.

This was a tremendously well executed dystopian horror that was so nuanced and layered, I'll be thinking it through for weeks. This is the rare sort of book that impressed and stirred me on so many levels, I'm afraid if I start to describe it my entire review will be nothing but an endless list of adjectives ranging between utterly chilling to heartening. Suffice to say, this sort of story highlights the fact that there will never be a more terrifying monster than human beings themselves. Alternately, it speaks to the magnitude and resilience of our humanity.
