Not so much a boring business book, as it is infused with bits of memoir. I sincerely enjoyed this book, and not just because it helped me learn a lot about my employer or made me feel better about the work I do. I think it is a must-read for anyone who cares about employer-employee relations.

I wanted to like this book, really I did, but it devolved into a soap opera set in bible times without the drama. The structure of the novel was too loose and the climax set too far back into the story. There was no sense of resolution, and while I understand the premise was to suggest a different perspective for this biblical story, it fell short of being truly subversive or innovative.

As if I didn't love the New Yorker enough, I now even love the Talk of the Town column, which I used to skip over. I don't know why. I guess becase they're so short. But these columns illustrate how much you can do with 1,000 words or less...

A Zane Gray-style Western, set in the Revolutionary War, with dinosaur-like dragons. I liked it better than it deserves, I think, just for the novelty of reading hackneyed, cowboy-style dialogue in a novel with dragons and George Washington.

Picked this book up without knowing much about it -- including that it was intended for young adults. Found the story beautiful, and thought the simplicity of the language added to its impact. Enjoyed reading about Leisel, Hans, Rudy, etc. but was especially captivated when Death was sharing his perspective. Great read.

Prep: A Novel - I enjoyed it a lot. It surely brought back some teenage moments-feelings-experiences- At the same time, I was disappointed with the main character, Lee, for pining over a certain guy, and how things ended. I thought Lee had some hope at the beginning of the book (including identity crisis,) *wink* - I better shut up before I ruin the book. I'm giving it a 4 because I liked the writing style, and enjoyed the book, however I felt that the author could have explored Lee more - but then again, Lee was a teenager, so this whole thing does fit. Hm. There was a passage in the book that struck a chord in me, which made things more clear for me. "There are people we treat wrong, and later, we're prepared to treat other people right. Perhaps this sounds mercenary, but I feel grateful for these trial relationships, and I would like to think ti all evens out - surely, unknowingly, I have served as practice for other people," p. 245. It made me reflect on our friendships and relationships from a younger age to me today at this point. Brandy and I talked about it, as well, and I was like - I'm glad I met Brandy when I did, for I was totally NOT ready years ago. I would like to believe that each trials and errors in our friendships and relationships are to be learning experiences and for us to LEARN from them, and NOT REPEAT them. If repetition occurs, then we've got a problem, yes? To sum it up - this book'd make another excellent beach reading - or for divas to enjoy and bring back some high school experiences and memories. Another thing that bonded me to the book was that it was a Prep school - which was kind of familiar, especially with us Deafies - Deaf schools - residential schools - dorms!!! It's a sweet trip down memory lane, however I am definitely glad to be 31, and I definitely rather stay 31 than to experience it again. There were a lot of sexual experiences in the book, which brought back more memories. Sheesh... Again, thank gawd we're over these years!!!
