Another very hard book to get through... yet at the same time I could not put it down. I recommend it but like the Kite Runner it nearly made my heart go out on me. Now that I am a mother I can't stand anything that puts children in risk of danger.

This is an AWESOME book! It's so hard to put down once you start reading. It tells the tale of a city miles underground, whose people have never seen the Sun or the sky. There is one source of light: a giant generator. However, the generator is failing, and it's up to twelve-year-olds Lina and Doon to save the city. I really recommend this book.

Honestly? "Finer Noble Gases” is amazing, it’s one of the best plays I’ve ever seen or read. The other two in this book, I could do without. “Faster” I just can’t get into. ”Stone Cold Dead Serious” gets all the glory, but ”Gases” is the gem here.

A whole lot about nothing. But seriously, This short book about a number ranges far and wide through the history of the concept of zero from philosophy and religion to mathematics and modern physics. I would argue that while bits are touched by zero, they aren't strictly about zero like the singularity at the center of black holes. Well written none-the-less, and very informative.

I still want to see the movie again, because it made me cry my eyes out when i was little, but goddam did i just not get the book. I don't understand what the anachronisms are for, I don't get the king lear allusion, I don't get whether I'm supposed to care about Lir, I love all the female characters (both, maybe I can count a third) but ultimately they're pretty transparent props, and I feel like the message about violence is pretty fuckin ambivalent. Also the writing felt turgid. But whatever, I'm glad other people are stoked about it. PS everything made me cry my eyes out when I was little.
