Having lived in this part of Arizona I found the story interesting and enjoyable. Although the use of journal format intersting, Tanner didn't keep the narrator's voice true long enough in establish her improved literacy authentic. She missed describing the wonderful thunder storms of So. Arizona

It's a wonderful work of fiction. Patty uses the backdrop of pre-depression Detroit to tell her tale of Edwardian romance, crime, and murder. As I read this book I felt more and more like I was reading the work of an early American realist, very much in the vein of a Henry James or a Kate Chopin. The setting is perfect, the characters are right on, and the story engages you. Many folks who know me know that I don't usually read this kind of book, but it kept me riveted.

I don't know many women that would enjoy this book, but being the avid Chelsea fan I am, I love it. I cannot get enough of her sense of humor and in-your-face-writing. No, it is not the best writing I've ever read, I don't think she was going for that. She is a comedic genius and the fact that as a woman wrote about something so taboo and made it work makes me love her even more.

I love to read Amish novels and I have really enjoyed all of Cindy Woodsmall's Amish books. The Bridge of Peace is the second book in the Ada's House series. I also read the first book, The Hope of Refuge. The Bridge of Peace is a wonderful story about finding your true self and finding your joy in life according to God and not pleasing man. Lena is a spunky Amish teacher who loves the children with all her heart. When things start to happen at school she is in danger of losing her job. Grey is an old friend who seems to be the only one on her side. As Gray supports her through her difficulties, tragedy befalls him as well and he can't seem to get past it. I enjoyed Lena's character. She has a very visible obstacle in her life and yet she does not let it get her down or hold her back. She keeps pushing forward with what she believes in. Lena's faith in God is strong even through adversity, which is something I highly admire. I see a very strong woman in Lena and appreciate the person that she is. I would definitely recommend this book and also the first book in the series to anyone who likes Amish books, romance, or a little bit of suspense and mystery. This would be a great read for anyone who seeks to delve into a story and keep themselves wrapped up in a good book. Hopefully there will be more books in this series since I enjoyed the first two so much.
