" The Sandwich Swap" is definitely one of my favorite books! I love how two different girls, from different backgrounds were able to come together and try something new from the others culture. Just think how crucial that theme is in today's society! I also loved the beautiful illustrations that were used throughout this book. Besides having a wonderful theme, I think this book would be perfect for implementing classroom differences. I would also love for my class to be able to bring their favorite type of sandwich in for the entire class to try out. Ultimately, this book helps build a lasting community that is sure to impact the classroom atmosphere!

This book was absolutly horrifying. I now have mind pictures that will haunt me for the rest of my life. It's so hard to come to grips with the fact that people actually experience the things that this young woman went through. It really ripped my heart out. Precious' story of her recovery and the evolution of her life was beautiful. Seeing her overcome the terror of her childhood was redemptive and inspirational. I'm glad I pushed through this book but it was very hard. Parts of it made me physically ill. I had to take several breaks but in the end, her triumph made me so happy. The writing style was hard to adjust to but once I did, it pulled me in. This was a horrifically beautiful tale.

This book was a like a long, beautiful poem. Lots of description, definitely character-driven, but with a really interesting story and some social commentary, too. I loved the main character, Selina - I think she would have made a great Smithie :)

My friend Melanie lent me this book years ago & I was embarassed that I had it so long, because it was a really busy time, and didn't finish it! So, I gave it back & had the intention of finishing it soon after. I finally did, all these years later & it is truly one of my favorite books ever. Thanks Melanie! I LOVE the characters, the emotion, love story & history. My only warning is to not read it in public- I only had about 20 pages left & took it with me to finish while I was having a pedicure. I was totally emabarssed as I sat there sniffing & dripping tears into my foot bath! This is a must read- go buy it for your book shelf to pass down to your kids someday. Just bought the sequel...hope it's as good.

I was surprised by the ending. It was hard for me to believe Tally cured herself though. This book was unsettling too, but I guess that is what the author intends. And why does everyone think there has to be a love triangle?

This book is more clumsy than some of her more recent works, especially the ending. Something about this story really moved me despite that fact. Although, I gave it to a friend to read and he didn't like it much.

The Altiverse hopping is a good idea. Joey is sympathetic. Lady Indigo is fascinating. The stories of magic vs technology is intriguing. But the book has no real plot. And it is clearly the first chapter in a long series. It would make more sense only if it was followed by other books.
