Hunter S. Thompson was a great era writer. This book is trippy and vivid. I think I enjoyed reading it so much because it is so unlike my own life. Its almost fantastical. Lots of drugs too.

Great overview of not just the major religions, but minor ones as well. Goes into enough detail about, not just beliefs but things like the texts they consider their canon, sub-sects of the religion, and such. Quite good.

Filled my yearning for some new Harry Potter world stories, but was slightly disappointed that it wasn't longer. I enjoyed the story followed by Dumbledore's narrative. It was obvious how she set herself up to write more short novels similar to this.. we'll see where she takes these!

Riordan does a great job with these YA stories. My kids talked me into the Percy Jackson series, and the Kane Chronicles now this one picks up where the Percy Jackson ends. Its a great whimsical tale for all ages.

In the interest of full disclosure I'll admit that I had really low expectations for this one. However I found myself caught up in the story early on. Non-stop action, interesting characters, and crazy circumstances. Pretty hard to resist. However I did have one slight issue with the book; despite being out of the anticipated age group for YA I never really feel as if I'm reading something for someone younger than me, this time I did. I actually felt like I was a bit too old for The Angel Experiment and that reading it was kind of like the guilty pleasure I sometimes indulge in of reading books from when I was a kid. It wasn't the fact that the narrator was a fourteen year old, the writing itself just felt young. Enjoyable, but young. Overall I'm glad that I gave it a chance, it was a fun read if nothing else and I'll probably be checking out the sequels to discover what happens next. :]
