Bloody brilliant, quite frankly. I'm always reluctant to read romances where the protagonists have the on-again-off-again thing going on for years. It never seems to convince. But this time, it's perfect, and I love the way we get to see their relationship develop when they were little more than children. Can't wait for the next one.

shirley jackson is one of those folks who is famous for one story (the lottery) and no one knows anything else she ever did. this is the story of a rich family that lives above a town and everyone knows that someone is the house posioned everyone else-but they are above the law. you'll read it in a day. see also, haunting of hill house and the sundial. like the films the beguiled and cement garden.

06-2-11 Great book! My only complaint about this book is I didnt realize it was the first in a trilogy until after I got it and the second book isnt supposed to come out until 2012, ugh! Hold off until at least the second book comes out before you pick this up because you wont want to wait to read the next one like me. 12/9/14 - now that all three books are out (and I have them) I had to reread the first one to remember what it was all about. I enjoyed it as much as I did the first time :)
Fantaskey (I can't help but wonder if this is her real name) provides one of the best vampire fantasy I have read in a long time. Jessica is living a normal life, until this dark figure invades her life -- right at the bus stop for her first day of her senior year in high school. He is compelling, with his expertly fitted black pants, white shirt, and long velvet coat. But it seems like he is stalking her, when he turns up in her English class, staring straight at her. When her mother comes to pick her up, she sees him again -- and horror upon horrors, her mother actually pulls the car over and talks to him. That is when Jessica has to learn, not only about her past, but about the dark side of life. I so enjoyed this book. It is well written The characters are well-developed. The settings are well described and the action/pacing works well. Fastaskey had taken a usual scenario and made it special. I highly recommend this book.

Easily my favorite of the series. This book removes all romantic thoughts and goes for some grade A mysteries/fights. From the Wal-Mart tree demon to the epic battle in front of an alter in the fairy world, this book doesn't let up. Butcher has settled into his characters and finally cuts loose. Dresden and Murphy benefit the most from the author's skills. Two one note characters have really come into their own.

Couldn't put it down. Didn't feel disappointed after. Therefore: good book.

Alfred Tennyson is, after Shakespeare and Chaucer, one of the most skilled craftsmen in the English language. He has a way of spinning beautifully memorable lines, such as these from Tithonus: “Far-folded mists, and gleaming halls of morn.” And … “.... Arise And shake the darkness from their loosened manes, And beat the twilight into flakes of fire.” As an avid reader of narrative and dramatic poetry, it’s no surprise that Tennyson is one of my favorite authors. He’s written many memorable poems such as Ulysses, Tithonus, The Holy Grail, St. Simeon Stylites, The Lotos Eaters and Morte d’Arthur. (Parts of In Memoriam are also outstanding.) On the reputation of these works alone, he stands among the greatest English poets. The Norton Critical Edition is an excellent collection of Tennyson’s poems, with helpful footnotes throughout. It does a good job of selecting his best works, and culling the dross. I recommend the poems mentioned above. His epic, Idylls of the King, is an interesting failure. Love or hate poetry, I recommend Tennyson. This book is an excellent starting point.

I'm really glad this was not the first "Pearson" book I'd ever read. I don't know based on this one, if I would have read any of the others. I would have missed out on "Jenna Fox" (and The Miles Between, but it wasn't my favorite either). I'm beginning to wonder if she wasn't just a one hit wonder..... "Scribbler" borrowed just a little bit much from "Romeo and Juliet." It was un-original and un-compelling. All the twists and turns were very obvious. The characters were not very likeable. The love story was decent, but it was like waiting for the train to crash. I knew it was coming.. I just wanted it to be over with. No such luck though, it was the last couple of chapters before anything crashed and burned. The ending was abrupt, like the author wanted to be finished writing it as bad as I wanted to be finished with the story. Thank heavens it was short... very short. I have to also comment on the "instant love" going on... Geez, why is it so hard to actually write about falling in love, instead of making your character pretty much fall right off the bat! Gah, I'm tired of that! I think what I'm writing makes it seem like it was terrible. While it was not very great, it was horrid. It gets a Meh moment. I award it with mediocrity. I have to comment on the cover... Hate it! Boring. I'm just not impressed! 2.5 stars Bram-eo, Bram-eo, wherefore art thou Bram-eo
