There's some useful bits at the beginning about using gem. I was expecting much more about developing gems (for example, how to develop a gem and use it in a Rails project at the best time). Most of the book is documentation for some gems, which is likely to be obsolete and best to read it when you need that gem in particular.

Please, please, step away from the serious books for a few moments and read through this. It's absolutely hysterical. Jon Acuff manages to show the utmost respect for Christianity and Christians in general, while skewering just about every aspect of our modern church culture. Some favorites - the side hug, saving pew seats by taking every key off your key ring (I haven't personally seen this, but it's reminscent of my church's fave from childhood - the taking every solitary page out of the bulletin to spread down the pew), sprinting to your car after church, and whether you really have to pray before every meal (not at In-N-Out and Chick-Fil-A, since those are owned by Christian companies and their food is already slathered in prayer like BBQ sauce, but when you see Taco Bell pull out that guacamole and refried bean gun, you better send one up. Chances are you're going to need it).
