Night offers much more than a litany of the daily terrors, everyday perversions, and rampant sadism at Auschwitz and Buchenwald; it also eloquently addresses many of the philosophical as well as personal questions implicit in any serious consideration of what the Holocaust was, what it meant, and what its legacy is and will be. I read this in college. Night really made me stop and pay respect to all that suffered during this dark time in history and celebrate all those that are willing to share their stories. These are things that people should never forget. It would be a sin to repeat history.

I enjoyed this quick read. It bills itself as a "novel of psychological suspense" and that is true. The fact that it takes place in Canada and Alaska and deals with the winter extremes of those places made it especially enjoyable to read in January. I liked her imagery and the glimpses of life on the edge of the Arctic. I will be watching for her next book.

Excellent book. I'd highly recommend for those interested in historically based fiction. Follett is a writer who really draws in the audience and gets them to identify with the characters.

This one's such a wonderful headscratcher that it doesn't really deserve a description. I finished it a week ago, and I'm still thinking about its conclusion and its meaning. Charlie Kaufman would create one hell of a cinematic adaptation of this novel, I think.

I have read this book three times. It always holds up. The voice is simple and yet it rings with the power of naming--you get the sense that LeGuin is putting her wizardly teachings into practice. I liked it when Ged figures out that minnow girl's true name (i.e. Minnow) and also when he builds the boat with those nice people from the Western Isles. I guess what I have to say is this: you will be utterly engaged, both by the story and by the pervasive beauty of this world, where each object is invested with the magic of a good short story--strange, with its own inner logic. It's a fast read. Set aside a few hours in the evening, and you won't be able to stop.
