OK, so it's a story about a girl with no self esteem because she's rather heavy, who becomes anorexic over a three month period and develops the body of a goddess and tons of self esteem to go with it. by the end of the book, she's decided that oh, I can eat, and she's a size ten, which I guess isn't really skinny in her book, but it's a size she can live with. Personally, I haven't been a size ten since I was in my early years of high school, but I've got self esteem coming out the wazoo.

Amazing book. She's a brilliant writer and I'm glad she took on a sci-fi topic. I read The Blind Assassin after this book and I got really, really bored. If I had read that before O&C there's no way I would have read this one. Have to give credit to my brother. He lent me his copy.

A useful book from a counseling perspective about the power of the gospel to transform every part of our lives... and how appropriating the gospel is the only thing that can actually bring about lasting life change. I thought the authors could have taken the actual 'change' process a little further in practical terms, but the discussion of sanctification rounds out where Jerry Bridges' "The Discipline of Grace" leaves off.

The writing style is chaotic and repetitive, but through it Fagerberg offers a brilliant analysis of liturgical theology. He doesn't ever really define the limits of "thick" and "thin" liturgy (what is necessary at the core and what is man's contribution) but he does provide a many-faceted look at liturgical theology as primary theology.

The narrator, Lynn Redgrave, is fantastic! Her voices are distinctive and evocative. But I just couldn't get into the plot. Or rather it moved too slowly to maintain my interest. :-( I gave up in Chapter 5.
