This book is amazing! The scope and imagination of Hubbard boggles the mind. I believe I read somewhere that this is the longest sci-fi book written. Even with how long it is, I couldn't put it down and was completely entranced the whole time.

This book was intense, and not always in good ways. It has intense swearing, intense murder, intense rape, intense bad guys, and is intensely long. I asked myself multiple times while reading it why I kept going. And why did I? The story was really interesting and I just HAD to know how it ended. I should have know going into this that there would be all of the above problems seeing as how it's written by Stephen King, but I hadn't read anything by him since high school and thought maybe he had cleaned up a bit. He hasn't. I makes you wonder how a normal person could write something so twisted and evil. But that's assuming King is normal. But besides all the nastiness in the book, I thought the story was good. I didn't expect the source of the dome to be what it was. I thought it was going to be more like what happened in Gone. I was a little disappointed in how they got rid of the dome. I wanted it to be more technical and heroic. Overall it had an intriguing storyline. But really, if you don't like bad language, grisly murder, multiple rapes, and bad people with absolutely NO ethics, don't read this book.

Who knew that an apologetic book could be this good? This book helped me a lot by a). systematically going through the precepts and misconceptions about Christianity and b). talking about Christ in a way that is alive. I dogearred the part about humility. I have never heard the process of becoming a Christian explained so well. I love Tim Keller. One thing I really appreciated about this book is that the author talked about the reasoning behind his faith without putting people who disagree down. He didn't say, "Everyone who believes in evolution is stupid," but rather, "Here are some misconceptions about evolution and Christianity." This book felt like a safe place to both doubt and strengthen my faith.

I will say that you have to read "On the Road" first in preparation for this book to gain a grasp of the writing style of Jack Kerouac. He steps it up on the oddity of the adventures and characters. I enjoyed the quirkyness and introspection of this novel.

Okay so this is my first EVER graphic novel...I know, kinda bad. But this was everything I expected and more. I read through it all in one sitting and I loved. If you are thinking of getting this graphic novel then make sure you’ve read the actual book first. But it was awesome. So, Vampire Academy is about best friends Rose and Lissa and the book is told from Rose’s POV. Lissa is a Moroi, a mortal vampire, and Rose is a dhampir, half human – half Moroi, and she has been assigned to protect Lissa from Strigoi, evil immortal vampires who are pretty nasty. They’ve just been dragged back to the Academy and a series of events unfold around them and not all of them are good. I am a big fan of the VA series and when I found out they had a graphic novel I knew I had to get it and I’m glad I did. The artwork for this is by a woman called Emma Vieceli and she is amazing and I loved the way she captured the characters. They are exactly how I pictured them. Rose is just amazing and the way she acted and her face expressions....It was like bringing Rose out of the book. She looked amazing! Dimitri....wow! I had been waiting to see what he looked like and I think my crush on him has deepened...I didn’t think that was possible but oh well. Definitely hot!! I didn’t exactly picture Lissa as how she was drawn though. I pictured her more graceful in a way and with shorter hair for some reason. Seeing as though I am an artist I really appreciate the drawings in this book and they are great!! I’ve never really seen a lot of Manga/Anime work but I love this! Vampire Academy is beautifully captured and has intricate detail of the people and backgrounds. The woman who adapted this novel, Leigh Draagon, did a great job with some of my favourite scenes!! I think my favourite parts were all the scenes between Rose and Dimitri but my all time favourite was with the necklace, so romantic and steamy. Also the end scene, the fighting with Christian and his awesome powers and Dimitri saving Rose from Natalie. I know that when I’m having withdrawal symptoms I will pick up this book because I can see my favourite scenes right in front of me instead of having to read the 300-ish page book. This is a must for any VA fans and I can’t wait for Ma to come around when Frostbite is released.

Lots of fun! Simple, bold text introduces M,C,D,L,X,V,I and the way to properly use them to convey numbers. The illustrations are backdrops, but fun (gladiators and lions, etc.) This book would work well for kids, but also is a fun read for adults interested in the subject- especially those who are often stumped by the 'Nero's 250' type crossword clues.
