I like books that have multiple topics. Indigo's Star is definately one of them. There are so many things going on at once- that it is simply awesome. As always for me, I had a little bit of trouble with the male main character, but I got over it quickly to enjoy the good story. I am probably going to read Saffy's Angel soon. I saw it at my school's library.

Not Krusoe's best work (look to Iceland for that), but more chaotic and maybe even a little stranger (if that is possible). Because these are short stories, he seems to take faster stylistic leaps of imagination and the plot turns at 90º angles. Blood Lake is my favorite of the stories. I can't wait for Erased, which looks to be a companion piece, of sorts, to Girl Factory, which I also loved. If you're looking for a laugh, a quick but then a lingering one, I would look to any of Krusoe's books, with Blood Lake as a series of quick bites in between them.

This rating is only for the following: "Fairy Gifts" by Patricia Briggs - 5-star It's a wonderful story told in few words but weaved together with rich details, excellent writings and sympathetic characters that feels real. I especially like the way Briggs tells her story; it's that ability of a good author to sweep readers off their feet and carry them along with her/him. Loved it! (Given that I only read one story in this, I've toned down the rating to 4-star for the book. But "Fairy Gifts" was 5-star all the way.) UPDATE: Decided I should give the other stories a chance and randomly tried some based on other reviews: "Priced to Sell" by Naomi Novick - Uh huh. It's an insight into how wretched NY real estate can be, but (view spoiler). Has potentials though. 2 or 3-star. "Guns for the Dead" by Melissa Marr - ... Ok? What's the point of the story? 1-star. "Noble Rot" by Holly Black - Not bad, but didn't grab me either. Plot feels a bit hole-y; it can't be that simple to (view spoiler). 2-star. "Curses" by Jim Butcher - Finally, random reading is worthwhile sometimes. Pretty fun, no fireworks but I'll check out the main series in future. 3-star. Perhaps I should lower the rating for the anthology now?

What a unique take on a book structure-- love the two-book approach. I truly enjoyed the novel portion and give it a solid four stars; the "how-to" portion was a little less impressive. I found a lot of the suggestions to be cursory at best. Plus the idea of encouraging people to jump into real estate flipping in this market seems more than a little irresponsible. I think there's a lot of information and inspiration to be gleaned, but I found the specifics a little shallow (how do you convince people to be part of YOUR million-dollar dream team when the type of people you'd like to attract are busy with their own interests. That little detail was skipped, as were several other key elements. Anyway, I enjoyed the book(s) and have already picked up "Cash in a Flash," the sequel supposedly written for bad times.

Great book - a bit disturbing at times.

This was a fun and touching story of a Jewish/German refugee family that fled to England during WW2 and struggled to both assimilate into their new home while not letting go of their past and identity. I had a bit of a hard time getting started but ended up enjoying it very much and now wish I had more of it to read. Its a heavy topic, but the author turns it into a light and enjoyable novel.

This book starts as a nuts and bolts introduction to how metaphors operate, establishes the concept of central grounding metaphor in culture and then finishes on a revolutionary philosophical note on how these concepts apply to our everyday experience. I would highly recommend this book if you wish to see the world in a new, experiential way.

One of those books about how life can change at any moment. I really liked this one.
