Nice story, but way too short. Leaves you wanting much more.

first of all, I love the cover art. it really fits the story and its just beautiful. 4.5 stars to this. this is the kind of story that you love partly because it made you cry. its a beautiful romance that comes to a tragic end. I loved how it was written and the idea behind the story was very original.

Mulan is not like most other girls in ancient China. She has grown up without a mother, and rather than spend her days doing ladylike tasks and dreaming of marriage, she has learned to fight using a sword and bow. Her father is somewhat distant and doesn't like to speak of his late wife, and Mulan often wonders if she is a disappointment to him. When the Emperor forms an army to fight the Huns, every household must send one male to fight. Mulan's aging father has recently remarried, and Mulan remembers well that her own mother died giving birth while her father was away at war. Fearing for her father's safety and not wanting her stepmother to go through what her mother did, Mulan decides to disguise herself as a boy and go in her father's place. She becomes close to Prince Jian, the commander of her unit, but telling him that she is really a girl, and her feelings are deeper than friendship, could lead to disaster. This was an overall enjoyable book from the Once Upon a Time series. I liked that it had a very unusual setting compared to other books in the series, and the story isn't one that has been retold many times. Although this book wasn't among my top favorites, it was a solid, enjoyable read that should appeal to readers who enjoyed other books in this series.

I love Jeaniene's books, and have read them all at least three times. What I truly love in this one is that Cat & Bones are progressing in their relationship, which is still really hot, but Jeaniene shows how they've grown throughout the entire book. The last book was filled with so much turmoil, and so many changes in their relationship that it kept the reader on edge. It would be so easy to give them conflict with their feelings in every book, but I love what she did instead...yeah, and Chapter 21 is as good as you've heard:)

as a budding psychologist, i loved this book. i appreciate sedaris' willingness to expose his own human flaws. he comes across as a doormat, loser-type which actually eventually comes across as appealing. my favorite part has got to be the final chapter titled "naked." he goes to a nudist colony for a week and i finally get the point of the entire book. the symbolic meaning of being in a state of undress yet being able to accept one another for all our physical flaws translates into the ways we as humans fail at accepting one another for our intangible flaws when we are fully clothed. get the irony? i think it's brilliant.

I can't finish this book. Barth wins?
This was good. I could relate - I met my husband through a dating service. 'Course the service I used wasn't psycho.
